Quoting: psycho_driverMan it's a shame Epic Games Store and all of their paid exclusives cut into Steam's market share so drastically.
That's why Steam has an all-time low I guess?

Quoting: pete910To be honest having used HDR on windows in the Past and films ect on my LG oled I cant say it's that impressive. For the most part it resembles some turning the Saturation and colours up to full.

Dare say it's a personnel preference thing at the end of the day.
What I find amusing is that the first Far Cry basically had a software version of HDR in it. So when you'd go into a cave, it'd be really dark, then it was like your eyes would adjust, then when you left a cave, it'd be really bright...
I think Fallout III did something like this when leaving the bunker vault for the first time (in your life).
Yeah, seems a few games here and there since then had similar things going on. I just remember the CryTek engine being one of the first ones to attempt to do a lot of crazy lighting things like that. Granted it'd also choke on the lava areas!
I can't remember it from other games, but I found it so suiting the situation: All your life in a vault, and then you see the sun for the first time...

Linux use overtakes macOS on the Stack Overflow Survey

As it's a developer site, I'm quite surprised this hasn't been the case years ago already. I'm at a big conservative company, and even we started to use Linux. (After 25 years of Linux usage at home and Windows usage at work, I finally get some bits of Linux at the company! :woot:)

Latest Steam Survey sees a minor dip for Linux & Steam Deck, still trending nicely overall

:D They had Linux +0.1 for Decembre yesterday...

Either way I think we need a second linear estimation starting with Steam Deck release.

November's Steam Survey shows another uptick for Linux thanks to Steam Deck

I annotated the timeline with SteamDeck announcement and Release and added the trendlines shown, when filtering to the specific timeframes (always including the moments, so there's 1 month of overlap).
Wanted to add the Proton release, but there is no data pre-Proton, anyway :D
You can clearly see the spike in people trying out Linux after the announcement (+LTT coverage) that lost momentum early 2022. Next months will indeed be very interesting...
The single linear line really doesn't cut it anymore.

@Lieam, we should have one before and one since Deck release.

What I want to see in 2023 for Linux, Gaming, Steam Deck and more

For publishers to actually stop forcing Launchers on us.
If they'd actually care for user experience, there would be an easy solution: make them optional (like Feral did). We all know why they won't do that...

Steam Deck now shipping across Asia, plus a new Steam Deck Stable Client update

Quoting: sarmadI know you are just stating your opinion, and I was just telling you that your opinion is wrong. This is a gaming device, not a military equipment in order to think it should be banned on certain countries. People in the west should really quit this mentality of punishing populations for the mistakes of their governments.
Well, the thought is that these (western) countries cannot really do much against some "governments", but unhappy citizens might.
(I'm not saying it's the right thing to do, I don't know.)

Steam Winter Sale 2022 is live now, plus vote for the Steam Awards

Quoting: officerniceBecause the way forward is emulation, people need to deal with that.
How about stating your way - without pressing it on other people? I still got way more to play, natively, on Linux than time to play.

Quoting: officerniceIf we were to throw Proton/Wine out the door and rely on native support, we'd be stuck at ground zero forever.
Maybe our impressions are so different due to different favourite genres. Puzzle games, point and click, CRPGs, plus work and children... cannot complain I couldn't fill my time with great native Linux games!

Quoting: officerniceNative Linux games have not been "sidelined". The awards are based on user nominations.
That's true. The games appealing to the biggest masses mostly aren't on Linux.
