ARC Raiders is broken for some Linux / SteamOS players - but a fix is on the way

Embark Studios rolled out a new update for ARC Raiders, which includes more people moved over to Denuvo Anti-Cheat that's causing problems on Linux / SteamOS.

For a lot of people ARC Raiders uses Easy Anti-Cheat, but they're gradually moving more players over to Denuvo Anti-Cheat as it seems Epic's EAC is just not good enough for them. It's one of the few very popular games that has worked on Linux since release, so to see it suddenly broken is a shame. Players are now just greeted with a "forbidden tools error code: ARAV1011" kicking them out.

In the latest release notes it mentions:

"As part of our ongoing efforts against unfair play, we’re continuing to expand Denuvo Anti-Cheat to more players. We’re pleased with the progress so far, and expect further improvement as we scale up.

The only update I can see about this situation has been posted in their Discord, where an Embark rep said:

Hello! The responsible team is aware of the issue and is actively working on a solution. Thank you for your patience!

That was 8 hours ago and no update in the bug report post since then. Hopefully the wait won't be much longer. I did send Embark a message directly before seeing that - no reply yet.

I do hope with the Steam Machine and Steam Frame coming this Summer that we see less issues like this. I wrote before here on GamingOnLinux how the anti-cheat situation overall did worry me and even when games are enabled to work, they're still (clearly) not testing enough. Perhaps things will get better though with even Epic Games and Electronic Arts looking for Linux developers to work on their anti-cheat systems.
