I never heard about Steam doing exclusives, it's on developer/distributor to decide where they want to sell. In case of Epic they are forcing the developers/distributors to not sell anywhere else.
You're right, this is true. In my eyes it didn't really matter whether the devs accepted an exclusivity deal or not, if it's exclusive on Epic for a limited time or only on Steam because the developer isn't willing to publish somewhere else, they're both exclusives in my eyes. One is just more restrictive (and enticing to the developer) than the other.

Honestly I would almost say I prefer Epic Games over Steam, because I can use the Legendary CLI program to install and launch my games. Once my games are installed, I can just make shortcuts that launch them through Legendary; quick, and directly to the game, no waiting on sign-ins, no heavy background clients making a billion cloud sync operations, other file verifications, and update checks, just launch and the game pops up.

This is in contrast to installing the entire [bleeping] Steam client and having to run it every time I want to play the one single game I need Steam to play. I tried ditching Steam long ago, but there's always some exclusive that forces you into Valve's ecosystem.

Ultimately, a Steam exclusive sucks as much as an Epic exclusive, because Epic's stance on Linux is abysmal and I don't like supporting them because of it; on the other hand, I hate feeding Valve's monopoly machine. Both of them means I won't be able to get it on GOG or directly from the developer (DRM free or not), at least for quite a while, or even ever. A sigh from me.

SteamVR Beta gets some improvements for Linux

Wow, maybe I can get on with VR on Linux now. It broke for me on Plasma Wayland some months ago and I had to cave in and buy a small, cheapo SSD only to put Windows and VR games on.... I've been connecting it when I want to play VR and removing it when I'm done, but it's a hassle.

Quoting: constwipeout hd/fury for PS3 has become my wipeout of choice. Is any of the available clones close to that gameplay feel?
Nope, none. BallisticNG, Pacer, Redout, none of them even come close to how great Pulse/HD feels. Not even with BallisticNG's other handling types.

I've been playing every game in the WipEout series since the first game as a kid, and HD/2048's feel are my favourites. They just improved with every entry.

RIP Psygnosis 🫡 Sony did em dirty.

Would totally get this if it had a numpad and Scandi layout! Looks rad. I make heavy use of my numpad every day, and an add-on USB numpad just won't cut it. Muh numbers!!

Nice!! I had originally kept an eye on the original Comet from some three-four years ago, gonna give this a shot as soon as I can.

It's been 3000 years...

(Seriously though, GPL is awesome, it really does help performance. I've been using it for a few months already by default and the improvement is noticeable on an RX 6700 XT)

Discord username system changing to make it easier to find people

Quoting: KimyrielleAm I the only one actually liking the #1234 system?
Nope, I much prefer it, not to mention how this is going to cause a lot of username squatting and selling. There's a big pushback against this change on places like the Fediverse and Tumblr (1) [External Link] (2) [External Link].

Plus, they seem to be working on a (rancid) re-design of the mobile app [External Link].

All while still making it against ToS to fix the issue yourself, by making your own client or modifying the proprietary client.

I hope Revolt [External Link] gains some traction when it's more developed, open and optional self-hosting, while being more approachable than XMPP and Matrix for the less tech-savvy

Right on. Mad respect. Played this game when I was far too young to do so. Thank you for getting me into so much trouble. It was worth it.
