Quoting: GuestI'm sure they'll be ready shortly after it's released of course, but I wouldn't expect day one support.Naturally. And even if they had day one support in the engine, I guess it would take some time for games to make use of it. But at least we might not need to worry about seeing a half-assed Vulkan backend in Unity, as they have already invested in the technology by getting involved in the design process.

Quoting: lvlarkAras P, the Unity employee whose words you just read, was Unity's representative at Khronos when they designed Vulkan. Might be safe to assume that Unity will be an early adopter, along with UE4 and Source 2. And or course DICE's engine, whatever it was called.and that Vulkan seems to not be too far away and that Vulkan seems to not be too far awayDoes this imply that Vulkan support on Unity isn't too far away? Which would be awesome since they've never elaborated on their Vulkan support, afaik.

Quoting: PerkeleenVittupOn par with the legendary Slicks 'N' Slide even?? =)Good old Slicks. Haven't had so much fun with any other simplistic top-down racer before or since. I can't really explain why.

PS: It would be pointless to provide the game without the cutscenes, as most of the content is presented in FMV form. A different codec (even a lower quality one) would be an acceptable solution though. They could even up the bit rates (and thus file sizes) slightly to alleviate the drop in visual quality.

Quoting: PerkeleenVittupSo then, i suppose there's still hope.Maybe some hope, but not much. They've made it quite clear that the game didn't sell well enough to justify an update to Unity 5 at this point, and the new Bink plugin isn't likely to support older 4.x versions. They didn't say never though, so let's stay optimistic and hope for the best.

Quoting: SlickMcRunFastConcept image looks very close to unigine heaven benchmark. Airships and floating islands. https://unigine.com/en/products/benchmarks/heaven [External Link]Well the old 3DMark05 seems to have had the airship already, although flying around a canyon. Maybe benchmark designers simply like steam punk blimps. :)

@mao_dze_dun: I can't find any indication that Unigine's benchmarks use any of the latest and most advanced OpenGL functionality though. There are reports from 2013 that they're using some features of 4.3, but that doesn't mean Feral is speaking out of their ass. Unigine might even purposely be restricting themselves to extensions and features that are universally and well supported.
As someone in the software business I'd take a strict implementation of a standard or a specification any day over vendor-specific quirks, bottlenecks or loose interpretations, but we just might not be qualified to argue with people actually writing cutting-edge OpenGL when we know little more than what we've read on the intertubes.

Third release candidate of Wine version 1.8 is out

What's wrong with this one [External Link]? It has "official wine builds" of 1.8 rc3 for all Ubuntu releases starting with Trusty and even one for 12.04 (Precise). I rarely use wine for anything but these packages seem to install and work just fine, at least on Mint 17.

Bink's Unity plugin has supported Linux since August this year, but I guess the support came too late. Here's the changelog [External Link] for those interested.
This is really too bad. I guess the game will remain unplayed in my library for the foreseeable future.

They wouldn't dare do that to Psychonauts, would they? :'(
No backing from me (as if they need it), but I'm sure it'll end up in my library at some point. The first one is an excellent game, no two ways about it.

Quoting: ElectricPrismI hated GRID 1 because of the realistic controls, maybe if it looks fun in the Live Stream I'd like it. I want something like Twisted Metal or Burnout Paradise - Dirt Showdown quenches most of that style but I wish it was open world ;(I want good old Driver San Fransisco on Linux. It beats Burnout Paradise hands down.
