I think it would be pretty safe to say the majority of cheating players are on windows so lets just bar all windows users from playing it :DDDDD

This is just an admission that they know the anti-cheat they currently have is clearly not good enough, instead of going to a doctor they would rather put a small paw patrol bandaid on a gunshot wound to their foot. Instead of cutting off part of your audience you could invest more into the anti-cheat that you have especially since you could try to roll it out to your games.

Assassin's Creed Shadows and Star Wars Outlaws head to Steam as Ubisoft return to same-day releases

We are departing from the traditional Season Pass model. All players will be able to
enjoy the game at the same time on February 14 and those who preorder the game
will be granted the first expansion for free.
Season passes aren't traditional, they started a bit more than a decade ago and popularized themselves about a decade ago. It really isn't traditional when compared to the still ongoing practice of releasing a game and that's it, some updates to fix bugs and performance problems but that's about it. So still probably doing a season pass but not having preorders for it or maybe announcing it until 2-4 months after the initial game release.

Acer enter the handheld PC gaming race with the Nitro Blaze 7

Something I don't get is the need for a 1080p display. I get making it still run games well when docked with a 1080p external display, but on the device itself I don't understand. Undocked is when you want more battery life not maximum performance unless I really need that to run that specific game but then you can play it for 40 minutes.
Obligatory comment about win11 on a handheld. One thing the anbernic devices get is that the ui on the non-android ones isn't total garbage and fan efforts also understand that. MuOS on the anbernic 35xx devices is super simple, super plain and easy to navigate with a dpad and face buttons.
A full os isn't, which is why touchpads are a great addition. Win11 and no touchpads is a double whammy. Every time I see a device with a full desktop interface and no touchpads I know they don't care about the user experience.

Square Enix invests in Playtron for their Linux-based PlaytronOS - first Alpha out now

Steam OS:
Compatible with Steam only
Locked to the Valveverse
What the hell is the valveverse? Uhhh it can run more than just valve games? What on earth is this even supposed to mean other than having two contrived points
Quoting: tpauOther stores require decky loader to do it and still aren't as well integrated into the GUI as steam is.
This does make some sense for the first bullet point but like I mean if I bought say an EA device and they let me install other launchers I would assume I may need to read a guide to get it working. Like I guess thats a bonus that this integrates them better but its also at the cost of functionality with losing native linux games.

Valve attempts to deal with jokes, memes and ASCII art reviews on Steam

Are you telling me an ascii anime girl butt or breasts gets old really fast? Don't worry, I have an ascii penis, that won't get old right? I'm sure the people with adult content disabled like ascii genitals being displayed on basically every game.
Genuinely shocked they didn't do this much sooner since this isn't new at all. This doesn't need to be like nintendo's miivese but like some moderation more than what we have now which feels like zero is an improvement.

Nintendo Switch emulator yuzu gets a huge performance boost

Quoting: legluondunetNintendo is an innovative company and produces user-friendly games, switch emulators must be costing them a lot of money.
I'm mostly curious as to how nintendo has innovated in the past decade and even since the release of the switch. Also yes bleem was definitely a thing and its legal precedent is still massively important.

Valve gives the Discovery Queue a makeover to help you find your next game
13 Jul 2022 at 3:40 am UTC Likes: 1

Quoting: EhvisThe main problem of the discovery queue is probably the same as that of the "More like this" section. Some of the matches are completely outrageous. Go to the "Beat Saber" page, more like this .... Assetto Corsa. Right. If it can't do that right, the queue can't do any better.
This sort of highlights the problem with tags because I bet they share some tags and the system says "yes, these must be similar". I've tried to find things I might be interested through tags and I never get anywhere with it. Some of this is because games are improperly tagged like take Yakuza 7/Yakuza Like a Dragon, Turn-based JRPG with timed button prompts similar to Paper Mario. This game is tagged with "action" despite not being an action game. The "more like this" section (for Yakuza 7) lists Hitman, Shadow of the Tomb Raider and Wasteland 3. I think the problem has improved a bit over time but it really isn't quite there yet. Tagging is something that could be really useful for finding things similar to what you like but it ends up recommending games that, to me, are unrelated.

I can't think of another sort of platform or service for games with tags like this but I would like to see someone else do it and do it well because that would be a great resource especially something like that with a steam deck or protondb rating.

Quoting: PenglingYeah, I've got some of that going on, but you nailed it, the lack of fine-grained control is exactly the problem
This so much. I don't really want to remove a lot of tags because sometimes games are improperly tagged or a tag for a minigame that is completely optional and I might miss something I would like a lot, but I also want to remove games I know I wouldn't be interested in.

Denuvo announced Denuvo SecureDLC to protect DLC
5 Jul 2022 at 2:06 am UTC Likes: 1

Some games with denuvo release with it poorly implemented to where it either causes problems or is completely ineffective because either they shipped the wrong executable or add an extra executable they weren't supposed to. So this only increases the chances that they mess something up adding new performance problems or vulnerabilities within their DRM scheme. So a game could potentially get denuvo, have problems, the problems get fixed, DLC releases with denuvo, game has the problems it did from launch all over again because denuvo was not implemented correctly a second time. That name though, SecureDLC, really sounds like SecuROM/SuckU-ROM.

Steam Deck update brings an FPS-only mode for the overlay

Is the FPS counter always white text or does it have a high contrast colour option like what the steam overlay has?
