Quoting: rkfg... I understand if there are issues with deterministic RTS engines, math could be slightly different on each platform and in the end the butterfly effect causes heavy desyncs. But in a turn-based strategy?.. Weird. ...It is the same problem, it just (usually) has to do with the randomizer instead of the trigonometry. Wine has also struggled with getting this right in the past. As an example, rand() from MSVC is particularly crappy while the glibc version has a lot more randomness. Wine gets around this by implementing the crappy MSVC algorithm when an app tries to use MSVC's rand(), but this is not the only way to get random numbers. So, unless you capture all the ways that an application does its math differently on different platforms then you're going to have a problem.

I really hope this is just someone being careful with commitments, CivV and Civ:BE were both great ports and I would _really_ like to see CivVI on Linux.

Quoting: Mountain Man...Then don't go into a restaurant that has a sign outside that says your not welcome, wait until the sign changes.
"I know the service was slow, the food was unappetizing, and the waiter spit in your coffee, but please be as grateful as possible that you were served anything at all."
Yeah, how about no.

I know a lot of people bought this game on the Linux promise, and it sucks that it has taken this long, but please be as grateful as possible when this comes out. If we don't "return the favor" then it will just reinforce stereotypes about our community that have contributed to the situation we've had for so long where companies don't make games for our platform.
Personally, I haven't bought this game yet because I've been waiting for the Linux support - and I _do_ plan to buy it when it comes out to show my support. I really hope that others do as well, because if nobody buys it when the Linux support is released then they're going to scream "only Windows users matter" like we've heard time and time again. They cannot tell the difference between Windows users and people that buy on the promise of a Linux release, so please don't buy on promise - buy on release.

Weird, it appears to be even more expensive at the Feral store ($59.99) than the non-discounted steam price ($49.99):

Edit: they've updated the price, wow that was fast.

I've been doing some volunteer Linux QA for them for some time, so if anyone has any trouble with it then let me know and I'll try to help. I finally played through the campaign for the release and I have to say that I _really_ enjoyed the game. I'd highly recommend this game to anyone that enjoyed DKII.
