I switched from Steam to GOG through Heroic Games Launcher because Steam is undergoing an enshittification process for two years now.
The Steam client for Linux is giving many problems to many users, mainly to those who use Big Picture and especially through the Flatpak package. By other hand, the problem with intermediate launchers has worsened, with publishers that don't allow to install a game after several times or directly don't allow you to install the game after buying it through Steam (Dead Space 2 and Civilizations III are two cases of that). Valve is doing nothing to fix the situation.
I'm very grateful to Valve because the Linux Gaming would not exist without its contribution, but its greatest contributions were made seven years ago and the circumstances have changed. Today Steam is not that platform that puts the user in the first place and I see that GOG looks more like the Steam from ten years ago than Steam itself currently.

It seems that ray-tracing will be a requirement, so be prepared for a "non compatible with Steam Deck".

As a big fan of Turok: Dinosaur Hunter and the Nintendo 64 version of Turok 2: Seeds of Evil, I'm happy to see this. This IP was going almost through the limbo since Acclaim closed in 2004.
I would rather to see a FPS instead of a third person shooter, but because of I have a console spirit, this means that I could play perfectly with a controller, although Turok 1, Turok 2 and Turok 3 are console shooters and hence they are perfectly playable with a controller.

I think that SUSE immutable systems are better focused. transactional-update seems smaller than OSTree and Snapper manages the snapshots. Moreover, in SUSE and openSUSE immutable systems you can rollback things the /etc folder, while with OSTree you only can rollback through the system images. In Aeon Desktop the automatic updates are scheduled with a systemd timer.
Finally, with Aeon Desktop you have a rolling release system, while with Fedora you have a point release system if you don't use the rawhide repo, but rawhide is nothing more than an experimental repo.
I like Fedora, but if you try Aeon Desktop, you can see that it's a lighter system than Silverblue, although the presence of x86_64-v3 packages in Aeon Desktop may be influencing.

Quoting: fenglengshunI won't lie, as a Bazzite user who builds my own custom image, I kind of wished that Valve would switch to a an rpm-ostree or similar infrastructure. I would love to have SteamOS images, with my own tools pre-baked in.IMHO, OSTree is a very bloated software that steps on things that systemd can do. Even GNOME OS tries to replace it with parts of systemd.

On immutable systems like Silverblue, Kinoite and MicroOS (now Aeon and Kalpa) the Flatpak package makes a lot of sense.

Quoting: EikeWith Flatpak you can have the same stack on every distro and a very recent version of Mesa regardless of the distribution without compromising the system. You can transform Debian Stable into a gaming system without break anything.Quoting: ZlopezIt's also good to see that Flatpak Steam is so widely used. :-)Why? The reason for Flatpak that I'm aware of is getting newer software, but Steam is updating itself...

Many Linux users don't want solutions, they want patches that mitigates things but don't solve anything, because if you don't use Linux typing one thousand of commands per day because of mediocre software available for Linux, you aren't a true Linux user.

Quoting: Purple Library GuyThat video says "Flatpak is the future". Well, I'm willing to believe Flatpak is (the future of proprietary software on Linux). I don't think it would be such a good idea for every damn application and utility, the open source ones, the main Linux software ecosystem, to be using Flatpak instead of normal package management. Why not Open Source apps? I use Kdenlive Flatpak and it's very much better than the RPM package I could get (when I was using Fedora Workstation) from RPMFusion, and Kdenlive Flatpak is an official compilation, so if it fails I can report directly to Kdenlive developers.

I don't think that DualSense market for Linux is bigger than any very known game and you have an official driver in Linux for DualSense.

Quoting: scaineEh, naw. I don't agree with that. It's all money - Mac has about four or five times our market share. Simple as that. And the GPL has nothing to do with releasing a proprietary game on Steam, a proprietary platform. You said it, it's all money. A little trick (supporting Proton) versus porting the whole game. Today it's not difficult to make a game that runs on Linux, even you can use Windows binaries. Valve has made it easier than ever, but many developers still prefer to port the whole game to Mac reprogramming the DirectX thing to Metal and now you have to chose between support x86 and ARM or just ARM.

From years ago I think that developers don't want Linux because of GPL license. Too many power for the user, and the most of big corporations and many developers don't want to give power to users, they want to use users while they take user's money.
Porting to Mac is much more expensive than adapt to Proton, but many developers prefer to port to Mac instead of supporting Linux through Proton. This is not an economic question, it's a political question.

Quoting: lucinosI would guess a big part of the flatpak is fedora, if I am not mistaken they push it more than other distros. If you take Steam from RPM Fusion, Fedora is not correctly identified by the Steam client. You have to install the 'redhat-lsb-core' package if you want to see Fedora well identified by the Steam Client. If you don't do that, Fedora Workstation is identified as a generic Linux system by the Steam Client.
