Sadly it looks like Shadow Warrior 2 won't be a day-1 Linux release

Quoting: t3gG2A and Kinguin.

As Liam said, don't buy from those. It's worse than piracy - fraudsters get your money, the developers don't get paid and legitimate distributors like GOG etc. get hit with fees for the fraudulent transactions.

I emailed Devolver Digital almost a week ago now about this (well, about the lack of any mention of Linux on GOG's store page) and this is what they told me:

QuoteThere won't be a Linux version at launch, similar to the first game. Sorry but the team does plan on having one and it will be DRM-free as well.

Shadow Warrior 2, the awesome looking FPS is due out in less than two months

I emailed Devolver Digital to ask about GOG & the Linux version, here's what they said:

So, good news: Linux version should be coming to GOG. Bad news: no Linux version until some time after launch.

Performance could be better, but it's playable - on my system I'm generally getting around 30-40fps even in the city, running at 1920x1200 ultra settings.

Quoting: tony1abFolks. How is the performance of the first game for you?
I have same pc with 2 partitions.
amd r9 260x. core i7 2600. 16 gig ram.

With my win 7 partition I have 57fps. Everything in ultra settings. Latest amd drivers.
With my ubuntu partition I have 23 (unplayable). Latest amd drivers. (and tested on ubuntu 14.04, and upgraded to 15.04 to see if that was the reason...no luck)

Funny thing is, If i swicht settings to high I have 23 fps. If I switch to medium, i have 23 fps. And if I switch to low, I have 23 fps...
Yes, no matter who settings I choose. Always 23.

Other games in Ubuntu performs ok. I think this company leave linux market as a secondary thing, and doesnt bother our performance. If they do that to us, I think is not right to support them.

I usually get over 100fps with everything maxed at 1920x1200 here. i7 2600k @ 4.4GHz, 16GB RAM, Nvidia GTX 970 (using proprietary drivers), Linux Mint 17.1 KDE

Quoting: liamdaweWhat a terrible, terrible comment from that editor.

Yeah, it's utterly ridiculous but sadly that kind of attitude is very common in the games industry :/

Now I don't have any problem with developers using a wrapper to "port" old games such as these (sure, it's no problem for most of us here to set up CrossOver or Wine to play the Windows versions, but most gamers just want to install and play without any fuss), but they should make sure that they perform decently. It's stupid that TW2 performs *worse* in a wrapper designed specificially for it than it does in Wine! I think things would have been much better if CDPR got CodeWeavers to do the job instead...

Quoting: omer666I tried to install GOG version on Wine but it stalls at 1/3 of the installation...

Try running the installer with the /nogui option

I bought the Steam version to reward CDPR bringing it to Linux (already had the game on GOG), but its performance is significantly worse than running the Windows version in CrossOver :/ Given its age I don't really mind that they've used a wrapper, but I was expecting it to at least match Wine in performance and stability.

BTW if anyone didn't know this already you can use the key that Steam gives you to get a DRM-free copy of the game on GOG (Windows & Mac only for now, but GOG will be introducing Linux support later this year): http://www.gog.com/witcher/backup
