Just look at that wallpaper, it's Debian all the way down!
Love the wallpaper and the quote!

ProtonDB now has filters for PC and Steam Deck reports

ProtonDB can be useful, and I'm glad to see improvements, but my main source (besides the deck ratings) will always be the issue tracker on GitHub [External Link].

It's usually a lot more current, provides better workarounds, and it's also where the Valve devs hang out.

Thankfully though, Proton support is so comprehensive I take it for granted. In the last sale I actually forgot the check the games bought beforehand. Unsurprisingly, they all worked.

I'm just glad the Toy Story franchise is still alive, or there would be no new Debian releases!

Now official: you can buy a refurbished Steam Deck from Valve

$319 is still a little bit too much for me. Maybe I can wait for the second round and buy a refurbished refurbished unit for half price?

I would also be fine with Valve giving me a Deck that didn't "pass rigorous criteria". You know the ones. The sticky disgusting ones. Dipped in Mountain Dew, stained with Cheetos and used by a gamer with chronic nasal drip!

Classic Unreal Tournament lives on with a new OldUnreal upgrade, 64bit now on Linux
9 Aug 2023 at 5:30 pm UTC

Quoting: Zaphod9099It's there and is executable, but when I run it it errors thus:

-rwxr-xr-x 1 alan alan 154100 Jul 26 15:59 ut-bin
-rwxr-xr-x 1 alan alan 154100 Jul 26 15:59 ut-bin-x86

❯ ./ut-bin
zsh: no such file or directory: ./ut-bin
That's the 32bit version, the 64bit binary should be ut-bin-amd64.

You might get a confusing error like that if your system isn't set up to run 32-bit software.

Quoting: Zaphod9099So can I ask a really basic question: one you install the patch, how do you run UT on Linux? What is the command?
Should be ut-bin in either the System or System64 directory.

Usually you need to manually cd to the directory and launch it from a terminal like: ./ut-bin

Lovely bit of detective work tracking down the game, sometimes the chase is better than the catch!

Steam is having a festival for Visual Novels until August 14th

Quoting: damarrinI'm going through some rough times in life now and visual novels are basically the only thing I "play". I just don't have the energy to overcome hardships in games for the moment.
Sorry to hear that. Hope things turn around soon so you can tackle some Dark Souls levels of difficulty!
