Any chance to wrestle more information out of them?

I'll give it a try later, but for people in the UK perhaps money in an envelope and snail mail is the easiest option?

It really doesn't matter what hardware you have. Anything that locks up the machine is a driver (or less likely) hardware problem.

Okay, in general, anything that causes your system to hang is a driver bug. It should not matter what crazy things an application does, it shouldn't cause a hang. It can be worked around in the app of course, but it's usually better to focus on fixing the drivers.
