Last time I checked they were targeting 23.0 for fully functional Wayland session. So, in about a year.

Linux Mint 22 is officially out now supported until 2029

Firstly, Cinnamon is their main desktop, considering they are the ones developing it and that it is responsible for 43% of downloads or 69% including Edge channel (now deprecated as mainline Mint ships with newer kernel) and LMDE, which include only Cinnamon as their DE.
Xfce, Mate and Cinnamon all work towards Wayland session. Mint ships Cinnamon's experimental session by default and while buggy and incomplete, it's already quite usable. Mint teams expects full feature-parity and stability of Wayland, including XWayland, (relative to X11 session) for 23 release in 2026.

I investigated the website a little. It has ToS and privacy policy (notably omitting who is data administrator). Moreover, there's even physical mailing address, albeit it seems to do not exist according to OSM. And download links point to original GitHub repo. They bought the domain in February from some global registrar. The domain has clientRenewProhibited status, which suggests some investigation is ongoing.

Quoting: PoliticsOfStarvingIs there any word of Wayland Cinnamon being developed?
The newest information I have is a one-year-old post [External Link] from one of the devs. He says that even though they are closer to supporting Wayland with Muffin rebase, there are no specific plans and he doesn't expect it near future. Their main concerns include:
  • Wayland doesn't run in a separate process, so Cinnamon crash or restart kills the session and closes apps
  • subpar Nvidia support (which notably improved over past year)
  • some utilities, like redshift and screen recording not working OotB

I've heard that KDE is working on the first point, so maybe it's time to bother Cinnamon's team about Wayland once again.

While I thought it's just for the server as well, after careful read I'm not so sure anymore. They specifically mention working to "expand and improve the Snowdrop engine’s presence on Linux".

I haven't used Minigalaxy, but for me Heroic is much easier to use than Lutris and looks nicer.
