Valve discontinuing the last Steam Deck LCD model
21 Dec 2025 at 12:55 am UTC Likes: 1

I was hoping they would keep the $399 price point, but I think it was fairly clear from the moment they kept the LCD model around as the cheap option after launching the OLED model that they would eventually discontinue the LCD version.

It’s exactly the same tactic Apple has often used to obfuscate a price hike, by the time the old model with the attractive price is dropped without any replacement at that price point, the press have moved on.

With the AI bubble induced crisis in the cost of RAM and storage, now I’m just hoping they don’t increase the starting price of the OLED version.

Isn't that already linked in the first sentence under the link embedded in the words "gone live"?
Yes, the link is right there, always has been.
Oops, thought I'd deleted that before anyone saw my mistaken post, you guys are fast. :-)

I really hope they implemented the solution to the puzzle as a remote check rather than it existing somewhere in the game exe. If not it will be a very short competition, won by the first unscrupulous person with any knowledge of code analysis/reverse engineering.

iFixit have the Steam Deck Battery prices up but already sold out

Quoting: GuestI'm not sure I get why they might be sold out already. Wouldn't people buy a replacement battery if the existing one....needed replacing? If they already need replacing, that's seriously poor quality.

And if people are buying them pre-emptively, then again that's not a good sign of quality. To me it's a huge "stay away from this hardware" warning sign. I don't actually think the hardware is quite that terrible though, so I'm left confused.
I think early battery failures are quite rare, but there have been reports of them. My guess is the buyers are people with bad batteries who don't want to wait for a valve RMA (or they don't live in an offical steam deck country so a return would be complicted/impossible)

Third party repair shops may also be buying them to have stock on hand, afaik ifixit is the only source for offical parts.

Quoting: TrainDocYou're kidding me. I was just finalizing my implementation and upload.
My condolences, perhaps you could pivot to a plug-in that lets users switch between multiple profiles and/or easily import and export community profiles from/to sharedeck.games or elsewhere?

Quoting: TrainDocIt isn't PowerTools but I wanted to give ya'll a little sneak peak of what I've been working on and even working with NGnius on:
Ohhhh, be sure to email in when ready.
Will do! It'll be a while longer because modals and drop downs are seemingly black magic.
Have you seen sharedeck.games [External Link]? There is also a reddit thread about the site [External Link]. Integration between Performance Presets and sharedeck.games would be awesome.

Steam Deck updates out for Stable and Beta, better Refresh Rate Switching
6 May 2022 at 12:54 am UTC

Quoting: superboybotThe Phawx's latest video tested Steam Deck's RRS and found the black screen lasted about 2/5ths of a second. Assuming this newest update came after he filmed that part, the change between refresh rates must be practically instantaneous at this point.

If they keep going down this dark path, Valve will end up evoking vile powers, reaching back through time itself to deliver 'negative black screen time.'
Soon, the screen will go black for 2/5 of a second before you change the setting.
Secret freesync/VRR support confirmed!

That’s not correct, disabling read only mode requires a terminal command. See here:

The text of the subtitles seems a bit small for reading on a 7-inch screen. Did they add a slider to change the text size or does it still require a mod [External Link] to change it?

GOG suspends all sales in Russia and Belarus
3 Mar 2022 at 11:18 pm UTC Likes: 1

This is a nice gesture from GOG, but I doubt it will have much of an impact as most of their games are single player, so many Russians who want them will turn to piracy and still be able to play.

More impactful would be if the publishers of all the popular online multiplayer games & MMOs (WoW, CoD, Valorant, Fortnite, Minecraft etc) withdrew service from customers in Russia.

I understand this would upset ordinary Russians, but that is the point. Putin's illegal war on Ukraine is killing thousands of innocents. Pressure must be applied via every available avenue to wake up the Russian people to resist.

Far worse is coming in the next few months as the Russian economy collapses if they don't overthow Putin _now_ (mass unemployment, food shortages, much increased violent repression of any dissent).
