The Arch Linux AUR had over 400 packages compromised with malware

Thank fuck I only use the AUR for like 4 things and none of them seem to be affected.
That being said, I would have been absolutely reamed by the ALVR one if I believed VR wasn't still a problem a long way away from being fixed on Linux.

Forza Horizon 6 is out, Valve update Proton Hotfix for Linux - initial thoughts

We clearly still have a long way to go before people understand SteamOS is Linux, the Steam Deck runs Linux.
I hope they never clock that SteamOS is linux personally, because it means you can trojan horse asking for linux support by saying "SteamOS/Steam Deck/Steam Machine support please" and they won't have their higher reasoning skills shut down and go on the defensive. Even if this results in stuff being made "only for SteamOS" this is nothing SteamDeck=1 %command% doesn't usually fix.

KDE Plasma 6.7 Beta arrives with Plasma Bigscreen, new Union theme system

Frankly if this is fully 100% keyboard/controller/remote navigable this is like a dream come true, I use a tiny mini PC in place of a Roku device in my home so bigscreen is a feature after my own heart.

It *especially* makes sense in the context of Steam Deck docked mode.

I wish this was just a regular feature like OtherOS was on PS3, the value add this gives to consoles, especially surrounding matters of End of Life plans, is downright nuts.

Like, Sony's pulling out of single player PC gaming because they want people to buy Playstations but if they just simply made this a feature, bringing PC to Playstation instead of Playstation to PC, they'd accomplish their goal with considerable efficiency. Hell, I'd buy a Playstation again if they did this.

I've been waiting what feels like 2 years for this one, so happy to see it has a release date.

Valve make steps to improve Steam Deck Verification, giving developers more performance data

I'm concerned about how this handles differing graphics settings/performance mods like Eclipse mods, or how it distinguishes between people who are and are not using lsfg-vk.

Anyone else noticing that countries and companies are loopholing authoritarianism through capitalist punishment hard lately? That has me terrified, because it means they found a means to get what they want through financial punishment rather than actual legislature.

Like, for example, the whole Visa and Mastercard situation. They're not banning NSFW content explicitly, they're just saying you can't earn money from it, which is close enough. Here, they're not explicitly banning freedom of speech outside of their own country, they're just fining Valve till the company does it themselves worldwide. Parents Decide act isn't banning linux, they're just making it untenable to comply with or face fines an open source community can't handle.

Makes me sick to my stomach, tbh. Especially because they're dressing it up in "fighting extremism" or "protecting children", people who aren't these authoritarians defend it themselves because they don't think of the collateral implications and context of what enforcing this kind of stuff actually entails. It will not be done with the scalpel it requires, it will be done with a zweihander.

I also see "yeah well just block [thing] in [place], problem solved" as incredibly short sighted, especially as a californian that would very much like to still be using linux after age verification laws we didn't even want got slipped in before we could even have a say about it, and I have to watch all these people go "yeah just ban linux from california then" - said before "Parents Decide" made it USA-wide

In for some scary times ahead.

Proton 11 Beta arrives to bring enhanced gaming compatibility to Linux / SteamOS

Deadly Premonition, if it works out of the box, is a very significant change.
That means it's a game that now runs better on Linux than Windows.
Hopefully it still works after DPFix tweaks too.

Quoting: whizse
Quoting: WMan22The bad news is: Everything regarding cutscenes continuing is broken, like everything renders correctly (except the HUD) but the dialogue doesn't continue and menu music plays where it shouldn't. Don't know if this is an issue with the game or an issue with proton, but either way MDK 2 HD is still unplayable.
Have you tried with native xact as per the ProtonDB entry?

That fixed the softlock bug, however music is still playing where it shouldn't so far. I can't even hear the doc's voice over the loud music, and there should be no music in the tutorial section.
