I personally wish you the best luck, but even as part of the community, I do not feel like contributing too much. I use this site to see what's coming and if anything is probably worth buying or kickstarting, but I have personally no intention to put any time further than that in it - sorry.
I still hope this step won't drive the site into yet-another linux oriented gaming website not worth visiting, since I felt that GoL was the first in ages worth visiting.
Good luck, hope the site will survive the loss of Liam, who did a really great job on the site (both, coding and content whise). Must have been a lot of work and dedication, and last but not least (I think comments are disabled on his leaving post) I want to thank him for that and wish him all the best - where ever his path may lead.

For those asking, it's pretty much what it was on wine + CSMT patch now in the native version. Though, playing it on Windows7 I get out a better performance than in Linux - I still get about 20 % better performance in Windows, which is not a big deal though if you play with 40 or 48 fps ;-).

I've had it on Windows already, so I am one of those counting as Windows sales - but playing in Linux.
That's one of the problems we currently have in sales, that we did own a lot of those games already.
This will be different in the future though, but to be fair - I think we won't hit more than 1-3% of the sales any time soon. Though, considering the current porting efforts needed, a port could still be worth it - but won't be a "cash cow" for anyone.

Hope he gets a free copy of Win8 to his 2 billions ;-).
Seriously, getting offered two billions - no matter what, I can understand the decision.

Glad to see there is still work on this. I played CS in the past, and probably would be fun to jump in and play it on linux from time to time, since I already own CS:GO.

To that I just gotta' say kudos to eON. They ported, they "failed" to deliver the wanted performance, they promised to improve - and they did and do!
It's great to see they care so much. I'm sure they learned a lot in the progress of porting their first AAA title, and I hope this results in better ports in the future.
And yes, I consider it a native port, since as I understand it, they wrap the D3D API providing according functions wrapping it to OGL on a source code layer, not an emulation layer. So as I see it they put in what most engines do: A porting layer for different platforms, having the D3D functions mapped to OGL - natively. And yes, most likely most ports use that - why? D3D is most common, and best known by the game developers. That might change soon with different APIs appearing (mantle, metal, etc.).
I already was happy with the performance the last beta, didn't test this one (yet). And I'm playing it on a old i7 with a 555 gtx...
