User Editorial: A different approach to calculating the popularity of Linux gaming on Steam
3 May 2016 at 7:40 am UTC
Of course valve knows how many users use linux, and even if it's 5 %, the number is completely irrelevant for developers/publishers unless they run that on gaming rigs which are strong enough for their games, making them a target audience. So probably the target audience for bigger games is way below even that 1 %.

Quoting: t3gThe last time I got a survey was over 6 months ago and I play on GNU/Linux almost daily. By Valve doing these silly surveys instead of using login and game data, they are hurting the perception of their SteamOS as well. Don't they care at all? Or will we assume that Valve will simply give up if this situation doesn't get better? The publishers / developers are simply not interested in just "how many people use which OS". That's in fact too less information for game development, especially for bigger titles considering the system requirements. They need the information about how many users use which OS and which graphics cards to see their potential target market. If 90 % (in example) of the linux steam users use Intel drivers, I can see why we're not given so much love. On the other hand, since Feral etc. are mainly betting on NVidia, I'm pretty sure the majority of linux gamers runs NV cards.

Well, didn't invest in this one (background check told me it was an unexperienced team, not going to invest in things like this), but it's sad, because basically it was pretty far along the way already.
Open sourcing will be an issue. They obviously have issues with each other, and both have their IP in the product, and it's not too far from the finish line. Getting an agreement between them to pass on their only possible way of getting a return of investment if they ever can agree to some sort of finishing it is hardly going to happen.
This can happen. It's a micro investment, and investments can go bad. I usually do background checks, so none of the games I invested in failed (yet :D). But I'm aware it can happen, my first will probably be Kingdom Come: Deliverance, since it less and less looks as if it's going to see a Linux release which was promised.

Quoting: JarnoYea, saw that in the beta already, and think paying customers shouldn't be seeing that.... because I hate to play fullscreen.Quoting: IDNO:( for me it crashes every 10 minutes :(Same problem on my setup, 64bit Arch.
Fullscreen works nice if use wm to toggle window to fullscreen, it also hides that top banner cancer what can be seen when run game on windowed mode.

The release will be done in the regular release schedule, so it will be done today morning to noon according to developers.
For major title or not, I'm personally very impressed on how many people seem to be actively playing the game. It isn't as advanced even technology and playstyle whise as WoW or others, but on the other hand, the game focuses in their own things, making it a lot deeper in certain aspects as crafting and skills, where you'll find a lot more to do than in regular AAA MMOs.
For me it points in the direction of old school MMORPGs as Ultima the way it's played and the things you do rather than the more action packed newer MMOs.
My hope goes for that with the NXT client the "allways-there-white-wall" will be gone. They featured this in the videos, so I really hope for it. View distance is horrible in the Java client, even on high settings.

I bet they will provide the missing library in the repository once 16.04 LTS is released.

I started playing today (with the old client) using runescape-launcher, and I'm so far impressed. It's certainly feature rich and fun.

Hmh, I love paradox, but they yet have to produce a game I like. The missing control during combat pretty much always is the fun-killer for me.
