Quoting: berarmaI'm amazed at the number of new games getting fullscreen right. Multimedia controls, Alt-Tab switch, activities overview, all working. Same with the Double Fine titles.
Not with Psychonauts they don't. Still, do these titles use SDL2? I had heard that it has a lot of those kinds of fixes.
I haven't tried the latest Psychonauts update just yet, and yes, the other Double Fine games use SDL2. The other games getting it right are usually Unity3D games, like this one. Something so obvious but it never worked well on most games.

Installation went flawlessly on Debian SID, although the Register button doesn't work. Also, after getting into the game tutorial it stalls loading. Good work on the launcher, it seems very well crafted, despite the mentioned issues on some systems.

I've played it a bit and works very well, nice graphics, smooth, it seems a game fitted for casual play. Push the graphic level to best for more detail. I don't like the paying model, I think it's paying for progressing in the game, that's the only downfall so far.

Humble Double Fine Bundle launches, we were right!

Quoting: CheesenessI think the notably high averages indicate that Humble's long time audiences and DF's hardcore fanbase are both at work, but some of the more opportunistic Humble contributors (who I speculate are the bulk that pull the averages down) are sitting this one out.
That is actually a very interesting point - the average purchase price does seem to be rather higher than for the mainstream Bundles with it currently being around $8.00.
This bundle, unlike others, has special offers, $35 for Broken Age and $70 for a exclusive T-shirt, that might have helped raise the price too.

I agree that the main reason might be that this bundle doesn't have a game for almost everyone like other bundles, and I guess that gamers being eager for this special kind of games wouldn't wait to buy them in a bundle. Also, psychonauts was already in a previous bundle and I guess almost everyone interested already owned it, that makes it a 3 games bundle plus a crowdfunding.

I like these games and most are debuting on GNU/Linux, so this bundle is great for me.

I've found a weird issue. Some games are multi-language in Steam, but just English for the DRM-free version. I can see the language files, and I guess I could replace the English ones, but is there another way to select the language?

What's up with this? Any logical reason to make it that way?

Quoting: s_dRegarding multiplayer, it is absolutely true, and I've a nice technical explanation from them.  It appears to be an architectural limitation:

As much as I respect these guys and their work, I think that's a very poor design decision.

Already paid $35. I didn't know much about the games, except for Psychonauts, but they look crazy funny from the trailers.

Desura adds another 4 games for Linux!

Good to see they keep getting new games, and the HIB doesn't stop neither. That's great.

The issues might be related to the name change, I remember having read about the problems of the name change in the game comments.

Linux Gaming DRM Free promises: Do they stack up?
27 Apr 2013 at 11:34 pm UTC

Even if Desura requires a client, it's open source and that means the service is open so that you can download the games yourself if you take the time to see how the client does it or you can build your own client. Of course, there's no reason to build your own client since you don't build your own web browser.

So you can download any game. You can't use a browser, but that's just an inconvenient, it's not any sort of DRM.

Quoting: FutureSutureWhat I believe he is saying, Liam, is that there are in fact some games which do not require the Steam client to run. I have never tested this, only heard of it, and it's likely only a small minority that benefit from being DRM free.
I haven't been able to try Steam but I also read about that. If that's the case I would like to know for sure which games will work without the Steam client before trying and still they could stop you from doing so after some update. I see services like Steam more like renting than buying, you can get some games DRM-free now without even knowing because there's no promise they will always work.

Euro Truck Simulator 2 Linux closed beta begins, my initial thoughts

Quoting: JoeYou guys are understanding me wrong. It's obviously not an action or racing game. However, in real life you can expect the vast majority of traffic to drive at least permitted speed, if not faster, when there is _zero_ other traffic and the road is pretty or totally straight.

I'm not talking about hundreds of cars and trucks moving slowly in rush hour style (doesn't exist in the game). It's simply one or two cars / trucks crawling slowly in front of you when there is zero reason to not go faster. This happens with at least 75% of the computer controlled vehicles whereas in reality you perhaps have only about 10-20% of drivers who drive way too slow. To me this looks a lot like dumb or buggy "AI" and not like a realism thing.
That's pretty realistic for me based on my daily driving, and also dumb, but maybe it's just me. Anyway, I would expect that could make it more interesting since you can try to pass them.
