Euro Truck Simulator 2 Linux closed beta begins, my initial thoughts
11 Apr 2013 at 8:26 pm UTC

Quoting: JoeThe game is not without its faults though. Computer controlled traffic often drives terribly slow (30km/h in cities and 60km/h outside of cities, even when 50 and 90 are the max permitted speeds) and will really annoy you as you often cannot pass due to the low acceleration of your heavy truck.
Hey, that sounds terribly familiar, that's like driving in some European countries except that real trucks do pass.

It seems like a management game with a driving bonus. Definitely not an action game.

Age of Wonders 3: Linux port if enough audience

That's just a nice way of answering NO to the question. Still good they answered nicely.

A Thought on What Holds Linux Gaming Back
1 Apr 2013 at 7:57 am UTC

Quoting: JeremyI'm not a graphics pro, or really even an amateur, but why isn't there a top-notch open source graphics engine published under the BSD license?  I think that that scares more game developers off than anything.  If they use a GPL engine, then they can't make the money they want.  The only thing that will draw them in is money.  They either have to save it, or make it.
No way. GPL engines can be used (and are used) to make commercial games. The only requirement is that the engine modifications must be released under the same license. A game isn't an engine modification but an asset that USES the engine. We're fooling our own nest by making false statements.

A Thought on What Holds Linux Gaming Back

Money is all that matters, specifically, the potential income. People can speculate but that's all that really matters, users on other platforms already know it and don't even get to play the speculation game as much as we do.

Humble Troubles Again, more platform specific bundles

I agree with most opinions about misuse of the brand. Every time a new bundle is out I go check which features have changed. DRM? Cross-platform? Oh, I can't play this time but I can donate to charity.

3 new bundles with Linux titles in them

For just a few more euros I prefer to directly support them on Desura. Well, at least The Journey Down which is Flash and Steam free.

The developers or Defenders Quest show off Linux sales!
3 Mar 2013 at 10:58 pm UTC

I've read the whole original article and liked it, not only because of the good news but because of the positive attitude of the developer towards their users and GNU/Linux. That's the kind of developers I want to support when they get rid of Adobe Air. They're sensible to the users concerns and may change that.

There's a comment from Puppy Games staying the same stats results.

Jonathan Blow on Linux users buying games and The Witness

Quoting: liamdaweThis annoyed me more now since I found out, Braid has been a top 10 selling app in the Ubuntu Software Centre for 16 consecutive months now yet he still says this?
I'd like to know how many sold games that is but I guess not too many. Besides, he may have set his selling standards very high counting Windows and HB sales. I just care about developers who can backup their statements with real data that we can objectively evaluate, anything else might be just good or bad feelings comming out.

Quoting: HamishI never knew that the argument was over Linux users buying Humble Bundles.
Somehow, he's supposedly thinking Humble Bundle sales aren't sales. Since they are, he should wonder instead why some developers don't sell so well on their own.

I really hope more developers take notice of all this. We do pay for games, we do not expect everything to be free so please just stop thinking that right now.
Some of us expect everything to be free as in freedom, not necessarily as in beer.
