Microsoft Windows kernel changes don't suddenly mean big things for Linux gaming
16 Sep 2024 at 1:14 pm UTC

I kinda wonder, though, if weaning off kernel-level access will help with playing on a VM. If I could run the windows-only games I occasionally play on a VM, I wouldn't be dualbooting.

Ohhhh. I thought it was considering it's Valve. Although, I can't find a definitive answer on the store page.

Question, has anyone else noticed the game defaulting to DirectX 11 on Linux instead of Vulkan? I was wondering why a native Linux game was taking that long to process shaders, and that seemed to be the culprit. Swapped it over to Vulkan.

Quoting: doragasuHave you tested if the mouse can move "infinitely to one side"? With waydroid, when you reached a point, it got stuck.
That also works fine.

Quoting: doragasuI wonder if this fixes the mouse and perf on AMD hardware, but will wait until there is a non-flatpack version to test.
If it helps, I've got an AMD processor (Ryzen 5600X) and it works fine.

After some testing, this works well enough with NVIDIA unlike the previous Waydroid workaround.

I wonder, though, if this could be applied to other games that have Android versions, but not Linux versions. After all, if a game's ported to Android, half the work is done for a Linux version already.

Quoting: LoudTechieAlso Apple design award winner sounds like a significant achievement, since creatives seem to be great fans of the apple platform.
I saw Lies of P won one of those awards, and I wasn't aware that game was on macOS until that point.

NVIDIA 560 Linux driver Beta has Wayland improvements, defaults to open GPU kernel modules

Hoping to see some refinements with the 560 drivers. I've been having some framerate problems since the explicit sync update (which is WAY better than the flickering I once had), as well as everything slowing to a crawl until I have to get into tty mode and reboot.

Seconded, or thirded I guess. This is an actually good launcher idea, because there's been a couple times during sessions that the host forgets which pack has which games.
