And STILL people are freaking out about it. For like... no reason ¯\_(ツ)_/¯They should be freaking out because we shouldn’t be allowing it at all. Beyond the ethical and legal implications for an open source project, there’s also the outsized environmental impact of every single prompt because of the data centers required to host these LLMs. It’s not good.

It even works great on Steam Deck!
I hope Valve are watching closely with Microsoft working towards an Xbox Handheld

This definitely reads as alarmist. Remember that Linux is once again less than 2% of the total userbase on Steam, and yet Valve made a Linux Handheld and continue to invest money into making Linux gaming better. Microsoft making a better Windows handheld experience isn't going to detract from what Valve has already done, or will continue to do, because they aren't trying to win a console war. They don't NEED to, everyone who's PC gaming already has a Steam library. "You can't play your Steam games without additional effort" is friction that's going to make adoption more difficult.
Besides, a partner-launched Windows handheld isn't going to be able to compete with the Deck on price. And it won't until an actual Xbox handheld is launched by Microsoft themselves, where they can hedge the price on getting more games bought on their platform, just like an Xbox.

Now if I could just get Nvidia to fix the horrific external monitor performance in Nvidia hybrid laptops, so I can go back to using KDE with Wayland.

The dev has displayed a real contempt for their user base in interviews and Reddit responses, generated a store description with ChatGPT, and couldn’t be bothered to create art assets for the store page that fit the sizing guidelines within Steam.
They’ve also yet to describe what it is that they’re going to offer that makes it worth “pricing as aggressively as possible” over their competitors in Heroic, Lutris, or Non-Steam Launchers.
I’ll absolutely be skipping this.

Quoting: grumpytoadIt's probably worth checking out again as 7.00 specifically targeted better controller controls, including introducing radial menus. A lot of our problems with it on the Deck might well already be resolved.Quoting: RavenWingsI´d love to get into X again, but I don´t think I´ll ever find the time other then maybe on the Deck. Anybody tried playing it there for a longer periode of time?I did play it for a time on the 'Deck, which works surprisingly well, because you can switch to different modes based on whether you're flying / map-mode / walking about, but I did need to spend a fair bit of time customizing the controls and making shortcuts.
I don't think you can optimize every last detail, because the menu-system is a bit unusable on the Deck, but I don't find X4 that hardcore to have to do that. Maybe creating bases is a no-go, but it was already incredibly clunky even with a mouse and keyboard.

Yesssssss. BRING ME MORE SPACE SHIP GAMES FOR MY DECK! It was one of my first thoughts when trying Vampire Survivors. "This'd look great in a space setting". I'm really glad there's developers who agree.
20 Minutes Till Dawn is like Vampire Survivors with guns — goodbye free time

20 Minutes till Dawn took me completely by surprise. Vampire Survivors was a good time suck, but between Gunlocked and 20 Minutes, I think the genre is starting to realize that have a more active role in the play of the game rather than just moving makes for a much more exciting (and TENSE) play experience.
I cannot wait to see how this evolves; the different playstyles that can evolve between each run are fantastic.

Mesa 22.1.0 out now improving open source graphics

So, pardon the absolute novice of a question here, but: when I go and investigate Mesa on the Steam Deck, it appears they have a version 21.x.x installed. I'm going to assume this release of 22.1 isn't going to get pushed to the Deck until much later? Does Valve do their own custom stuff to the Mesa driver, or (should you be an adventuring user) would this theoretically work out of the box if you were to manually download it to your Deck from Desktop mode?
