Microsoft completes takeover of Activision Blizzard as UK CMA approves new deal

This is great for venture capitalists and stockholders, but terrible for gamers, designers, and programmers.

Consolidation means more money for C-suites and less jobs and less choices for consumers. Less choice always means higher prices.

Nothing good will come from this.

what's the schedule for this to be implemented in SteamOS? What would it look like?

Heroic Games Launcher 2.8.0 adds a DLC manager for Epic Games, side-loading browser apps

Quoting: slaapliedjeThey both eventually launch games though, right? I actually prefer the Lutris method as launchers are crap. :)
Eventually? I guess. With Lutris, you still have to install Epic Game Store (and all other Launchers) separately, and installing GOG games really doesn't need either, Heroic just makes it easier. With Heroic, you skip having to install EGS or GOG Galaxy. There is nothing that Lutris does that I can't do either with Steam or Heroic. I don't see the purpose of Lutris, at all.

Heroic Games Launcher 2.8.0 adds a DLC manager for Epic Games, side-loading browser apps

Quoting: slaapliedjeCould be an interesting subject matter for an essay; as we know commercial competition drives innovation, but it seems to in the open source realm as well. It could be argued that instead of group A working on one product (like Heroic Game Launcher) would be drawing talent away from improving a different product (Lutris) that group B is working on. But I think in the case of these two, they seem to work just like the commercial environment where if you have no competition, you end up floundering around with little to no improvement (or you end up doing what Windows does and try to just slide in more ways to make money off of essentially the same crap).

I need to try out Heroic Game Launcher again.
They're two different products. They might seem identical, because they both help you play your Epic and GOG games. But Heroic replaces them with a single launcher, while Lutris doesn't replace anything, it just helps you install their launchers instead. Two totally different approaches.

FX Technology tease their upgraded screen for Steam Deck

An updated screen mod is the only mod I'd do to my deck. 1080x1200 seems a bit too high. I'd definitely prefer an 800p OLED.

Big new Stable Update for Steam Deck and Desktop Steam

Quoting: MaathAllow me to select a Steam input mapping from another game instead of having to remake my preferred "Keyboard and Mouse" mapping every phuqin time.
Create a template (export as template) and you'll have access to it from any game. I have to do this myself because I use an old-ball kb+m configuration on desktop/laptop. I don't use WASD, I prefer ESDF for movement because I'm a touch typer, and that's where my fingers lay naturally. And Steam likes to save configs in the cloud, so my controls are always messed up on Deck.

Steam Beta update tweaks the new Big Picture Mode from Steam Deck for desktop

How do I create or add the "-gamepadui" command to a Steam shortcut on the SteamOS's Desktop mode. I get a permissions error, and I don't know enough Linux to fix it.

Various BioShock games get a 2K Launcher calling it a 'Quality of Life Update'

I already deleted the game before reading this. Im not sure it's even worth the hassle to try playing it now, since I have a huge backlog. BS Infinite was towards the top of the list, was... but now it'll probably never be played. I wish I could get a refund.
