Another SIGGRAPH 2015 Video Talks About Vulkan & OpenGL, Valve Talk Source 2
24 Sep 2015 at 11:07 pm UTC

Quoting: KimyrielleYes, there might be some management inertia to overcome, particularly in the big studios. But if (and that's how it looks like), Vulcan is indeed superior to DX12, they will eventually be forced by the market to use it whether or not they like it. Microsoft can whine all they want, but in the end players want good looking games.
Sadly, that is not that simple, Microsoft is still using corruption, FUD [External Link] and others means to make sure that big companies uses their products. The question is not "Will big companies be willing to use Vulkan ?" but "Will big companies have the courage to go away from Microsoft ?".

Here is a few recent examples of Microsoft FUD :

- http://www.gizmodo.co.uk/2015/08/munich-officials-who-dumped-windows-for-linux-want-microsofts-os-back/ [External Link]

And one for corruption :

Steam Reaches Over 1,500 Linux Games, It's Not Enough
23 Sep 2015 at 8:55 am UTC

Quoting: maodzedunBtw I don't know why you've included the Witcher III - the development of that port is effectively stalled. There is absolutely nothing indicating a Linux version is coming.
They are supposedly working on it (source : steam forums [External Link] but since it's the most uncertain from the list I've removed it.

Quoting: maodzedunThe only somewhat big releases of the rest are Pillars and Cities but both, while being amazing games, are a bit more niche and not exactly AAA.
AAA games is supposed to mean games that received great critics, so Pillars of Eternity and Cities: Skylines are AAA games. But I get what you're saying, these games are for a smaller public than GTA or Metal Gear Solid, gaming on Linux will be a total success if we start getting those games on Linux.

GOL Survey Results: August
14 Sep 2015 at 5:56 pm UTC

Quoting: Segata Sanshiro
Quoting: WorMzyThe problem with 'how much did you spend' is that there lots of different currencies, and regional pricing differences, which would make it difficult to answer, and to gleam any sort of insight from the responses.

Unless you have a two-part question: 'What currency do you use? How much did you spend?'. Then the results could be collated by currency.
That's another issue as well, and one which I wouldn't really be prepared to resolve, the time could be spent improving other aspects of the survey and not ensuring we have the correct FOREX figures every month. It would be more straightforward to ask the respondent to convert to USD themselves, but I don't know how many ponies would actually bother filling out the survey if it meant digging into receipts, calculating how much they spent every month and then converting it to another currency.

In theory it's a nice idea and it would be a great statistic to have, but considering we can already get insights into how many games ponies are buying and also get an idea of how much through the retailers question, it really doesn't seem worth it, especially considering that there's no guarantee that the results we get would be accurate at all.
Personally, I'll never remember how much I've spend on video games on a month. I think you could ask the price range of the games ordered, with options like :
0-10$ (cheap games)
10-30$ (inexpensive games)
30-50$ (expensive games)
+50$ (very expensive games)

Valve Has No Plans To Bring Dota 2 Workshop Tools To Linux
10 Sep 2015 at 10:18 pm UTC

Dota 2 WorkShop tools is just a set of tools (Map Editor, Model Viewer, Asset Browser...) and maybe a few wizard and a documentation to help you make mods for Dota 2. From what I know Valve don't make new tools for every of their games, they just modify the old ones to make it work.

Some were made way before Valve made a push toward Linux and some of them are simply impossible to port to Linux because they have used Microsoft Foundation Classes (https://github.com/ValveSoftware/source-sdk-2013/issues/141 [External Link] which mean your only solution to make it work on Linux is to rewrite everything or use WINE.

Maybe one day they will rewrite everything and it will be better and work on Linux too, but right now their top priorities should be games and SteamOS.

Insurgency FPS Should Be On Linux By The SteamOS Launch
3 Sep 2015 at 7:58 pm UTC

Quoting: KeyrockNow if we could just get a MMO, I mean a big time AAA one. We have zero choice in that department, and I don't even really play MMOs, I just recognize it as the most glaring hole in the Linux gaming catalog.
You can play Wakfu on Linux : http://www.wakfu.com/en/mmorpg [External Link], it's a very popular and great MMORPG with a decent amount of players compared to other MMOs (Wakfu [External Link] vs EVE Online [External Link] vs D&D Online [External Link] and it even has it's own anime :
View video on youtube.com

So that's definitely not zero, and there is also Albion Online which is near release, and also some few very old or new but retro ones.
