Steam Hardware Survey For September 2014, Linux Rises

Quoting: adolsonMaybe instead of saying Linux rises or Linux falls, we should look at the actual estimated user count every month, and base the fall / rise on the percentage of that.
Sounds good, but AFAIR, they don't publish the total number of users monthly.
Also there is probably a difference between the total number of users and the total number of active users (I think you need to be an active user to have the survey).

Game Saves Are Messing Up Our Drives!

- Hidden in the HOME folder -> OK
- Under the .config folder -> OK
- Under the .local/share/ folder -> OK
- Anywhere else -> NOK

On your list there is only 7 games that really do not follow any standard, maybe you should report the problem to them. Also if someone try to create a standard saying that savegames should be in .savegames it will just make the problem worse because we will just have one more folder to search for savegames (3 is already enough).

Gauntlet Linux Version Delayed For Steam Machines

Not so sure, Valve is implementing more and more modifications to Xorg and linux kernel to have a nice gaming platform. As they said at debconf, these patches will not be upstreamed, so there is chances steamOS ends as a "not so compatible" linux distribution, like android now.
There is only a fews guys working on Steam OS right now, there are not going to X.Org all by themselves, they are just doing performance hacks (like getting rid of the lines of codes existing only for legacy hardware or software configurations).

Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition For Linux Is In Testing
20 Sep 2014 at 2:06 am UTC

Quoting: pbI bought BG:EE back in 2013 on the promise of Linux port "soon" and I'm still waiting. Didn't do the same mistake with BG2:EE, but I'll buy it as soon as the penguin icon pops up, same for IWD:EE and any other D&D remakes they're planning.
I think that strangely the meaning of the word "soon" in the context of Linux game development is to be understand as "maybe one day that will happen", I'm not sure of why but that seems to be the way it is.

Also, that's great news. Testing shouldn't take more than a month, right ?
