The OrangePi Neo gaming handheld with Manjaro Linux is now "on ice" due to component prices

What I'm curious about ia why Manjaro over Garuda Dr460nized Gaming [External Link]? Garuda too bloated and targeted towards a desktop install? I haven't used that in a long time -- since I got my Deck. lol

Sony PlayStation reportedly moving away from PC ports

*growls angrily*

I've been waiting years for things like an official FreeBSD or GNU+Linux distro, or ports to these OSes. It seems obvious to be that it would be fairly easy as PS runs on a fork of FreeBSD [External Link]!

It would be awesome if they... not exactly followed Valve's path but, took a hint from the hackers who made GNU/Linux run on the older PlayStations. Clearly, this is something people want so build it in as smoothly as SteamOS and market it to "content creators".

Imagine being a student or any other average person these days with limited space and money with a desire to have a social life. lol. It'd be great to buy a powerful console that doubles as a powerful and (semi-)open source PC. Start selling docks and branded mechanical keyboards and everything else. I mean, Sony is already a conglomerate that makes all sorts of electronics. Put together bundles that would be a gaming streamer or tuber's entire computer set up. That seems a much less gross way to make money than lock in and alienate.

Instead of being threatened by the Deck and other handhelds, they could go back to having their own that can double as a BSD laptop. It can't be that hard to finese a flavour of desktop environment.

I remember trying out one BSD or another about two decades ago. It was fine back then. I didn't muck around too much. Felt mostly the same as GNU/Linux -- yes, adding the "GNU" matters as that is the other part to make a full OS, whereas BSD is the full stack. I am sure these days desktop BSD is smoother than ever with good software support and they'd still have a great deal of control as they make the hardware and can tweak the software as desired. They'd just have to share GPL code.

For the record, I had the original PlayStation. I woke up one day to my Sega Genesis missing... It got traded in. 😭 Never touched a PS later than the fat PS2. lol So, no idea what they're up to these days besides what I've read here. 😗🎶

The simple GOG client for Linux, Minigalaxy version 1.4.1 is out now

I wonder if GOG has tried to payroll the devs like these that are already doing this work...? Is it too obvious? Or, are they using all different tools and thus would not be a good fit? Or, is GOG embarassed about the current state of the code? 🫤

Quoting: Chrisznixwhat's stopping the urge to buy multiple guitars?
Fair point. I have a few that are entirely different. i.e. an 12-string electro-acoustic, bass, fretless bass. I suppose there would be some difference in character between some strat pickup sounds and humbuckers but, as far as recording goes, the biggest difference is EQ. Ignoring the speakers and mics + mic placements because that's all virtualized.

So, I guess my point is the thing stopping the urge is realizing that having multiple instruments is mostly for convience and aesthetics. Thus unnecessary. It's a bigger boast saying you got 95% of the way to another instrument/pup config and in the final mix, those differences were lost.

And while I really enjoy (re-)learning this skill, I don't have the time or desire to do all the things you do in this game. They're very different things, this game isn't even about playing music and more about the life of a musician.
fair enough. For me, it's more of a matter of time to get some of these things done IRL. I've done plenty in the past already. I also don't necessarily want some of the presumed endgoals -- signing to a big label and being frontloaded with very large sums of money.

So, as much as I enjoy playing (video) games, I have to ensure to keep a balance between those and everything else I would like to get done. Games can very easily become a huge time sink and distraction beyond being a way to relax and hone some B055 5ki11z.

That´s cool, you probably should then. :)
For me, i never stepped above hobby levels and went down the Gear Acquisition Syndrome (GAS) path of instruments and synthesizers. I know some folks that went that route, and quite well actually, but man is that a tough life. So... i'd rather play Legends of Rock. :)
The Mod: Dwarf [External Link] solves GAS. It's fully libre and does everything from effects, utilites, amp+cab sim, to loops, metronome, and other stuff. Forget the AxeFX or huge pedalboards that cost in the thousands. lol
