Planetary Annihilation: The journey of a Kickstarter

Quoting: GuestTo be fair, anyone can claim they are in financial trouble and could be squandering their money and being fraudulent. Without seeing their finances, we can't know for sure what they are doing with the millions upon millions of dollars they've gotten.
...
From the dev's ego and behavior so far, I highly doubt it, and to me it smells like greed and fraud.
Hmmh, OK. I guess there's the difference in our views then :)

I personally see a small company that had to layoff people to be able to continue on business. Bug fixing is important but it doesn't bring them money so they have to work on new content to be able to pay wages etc. I don't see them as evil people who are enjoying their millions (which I don't think they have) and doesn't care about their customers.

Just like Über Entertainment I hope Egosoft is able to continue making games. Both has had really tough times. I'm worried if they want to spend any money for Linux versions for now since the market share is still very tiny and maintaining Linux version could be too costly.

The problem is this is supposed to be a finished game. It had Kickstarter, Early Access and a standalone expansion, they had a lot of time to polish it up.

I hope they haven't dropped it completely, but I don't see any patches coming anytime soon.
I totally agree that the quality could be better but I'm sure they have good reasons why the problems has not been solved yet. They are already in financial trouble and they must have been working on new expansions and titles already. I'm sure every developer would like to give best possible product for their customer but sometimes things just goes bad - Fallout: New Vegas, Batman: Arkham Knight, Mortal Kombat X, X Rebirth, etc.

The original article was great read.

I'm thankful they made PA and released it for Linux. Works without problems on SteamOS + GTX 750 Ti. It is a great game and hopefully we are going to see more RTS games from Über Entertainment. I wouldn't be hugely surprised if there is not going to be Linux version.

It is unfortunate that some gamers goes even that far they hope companies to go bankrupt and work hard to make that happen, like we have seen with Über Entertainment and Egosoft. Software projects fails - often and Kickstarter projects are not an exception. I guess those users are still young and doesn't realize what it actually means to have a job and pay bills.

Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition May Actually Hit The Linux Release Next Month

Do you think they postponed the release for fun?
No, I don't think they did it for fun, but whatever their reasons, they have treated us very poorly and dishonestly.
I agree with you that the communication has been poor. Small amount of information once in two months isn't quite enough for crowdfunded projects. It would be also interesting to know more about the problems they had. We have heard so many developers having middleware problems that it seems proprietary middleware support in Linux is not still quite ready in general.

As long as they are going to publish the game for Linux I don't think they have treated us dishonestly. Unfortunately bugs and problems happens in software business and then things get late or the project will be cancelled.

Why Do Projects Fail? [External Link]

What comes to communication I think other developers should take tips from CIG [External Link]. They are active in various of forums and publishing videos and posts weekly about what is going on.

You should not have to wait too long anymore. Enhanced Edition will be released in the end of October [External Link].

Don't Count On Any EA Frostbite Powered Games On Linux

Quoting: IlyaThe question is not whether EA wants to get on Linux, the question is whether I want to play games by EA. Apart from Mirror's Edge I can't think of a single title I'd bother with.
No, the question is would millions of gamers like to play EA games on SteamOS and Steam Machines.

I don't personally play EA's games but that doesn't matter. Even if I would hate EA, their games and Origin I still would like to see their games on Linux/SteamOS.

SteamOS/Steam Machines requires all games possible to be successful.

Hmmh, would be nice but doesn't sound small work and would require lots of money to get it done. Would the community be interested to pay for that work? Unfortunately there seems to be quite many in their community who are not interested to pay them 10 months of work but wants TITANS for free.

Great and well written article.

It is very sad that Steam forums are being destroyed by gamers who doesn't know to behave or give constructive criticism. Even worse are them who tries to make as much damage [External Link] to developers/company and the game as possible.

PA: TITANS is absolutely great game but oh my how bad I'm still am playing it ... :)
