My bad! I forgot we are on GamingOnGooglePixel here - or was it GamingOnXiaomi?
I was of the impression we were on GamingOnLinux and hence talking about PC gaming.

I get that we are talking about different requirements here.
So maybe to make financial transactions secure is as super easy as you say.
And maybe it is super hard in contrast to prevent cheating in online games.
But it still rubs me the wrong way that the prevalent solution to this is to install a root kit.
Somehow Valve doesn't require kernel-level anti-cheat for their games...
What do you value higher? The integrity of your bank account or that nobody cheats in your session?
At the moment you can only get one of these things without figuratively handing the keys to your pc over to someone you don't know.

Well, do you have any local software installed that makes your transaction process any faster? No? Thought so.I wouldn't be so sure with that

I do not recall my bank asking me to provide it to them as a service???
The world's financial institutes just decided it would be best to run their security on their own infrastructure instead of outsourcing it to their customers. Maybe banks are wrong and that decision was an incredibly stupid one.
IDK, you tell me! :woot:
Besides - me providing this as a service "and make millions" wouldn't change a thing. Game companies are offloading the cost of anti-cheat to their customers specifically to cut costs. Ergo they wouldn't be inclined to pay "millions" for anti-cheat, when they can have it for free.
P.S. In fact, game companies get process power for free at this very moment. Provided by millions of kind-hearted gamers who offer it freely. Of course, I would never insinuate that these poor companies don't deserve all charity they receive...

I don’t need any anti-cheat software - kernel level or not - to do my online banking!
Game companies are just full of themselves…

Onhestly, the whole anticheat situation will change if and only if Valve would make the Steam Deck 2 into a trusted device with unique IDs.The companies could run their anti-cheat solutions on their servers, instead of their customers machines.

I don’t know if this applies to War Thunder, but in general @Egonaut’s sentiment is not wrong.
Someone who makes games made for Windows run on Linux is ill-advised to completely ignore the possibility for updates that break either anti-cheat or the game entirely. Don’t take the playability of any game on Linux for granted: most of them don’t come with a warranty that guarantees any compatibility with Linux…
This is especially true for games where you can (easily) spend several hundreds of dollars per year. There is no problem in doing it, just be aware that any future update could lock you out of the your unlocked content.

What I find difficult to understand: How can you learn to code software and have absolutely no contact with POSIX while doing it?
Maybe nobody is learning C anymore as everybody is going straight for C++ (or Rust, or C# or or or…), but I’ve always seen C and Linux as being intertwined…
That must be it - the world moved on and I became an old man yelling at a cloud.

These labels need to be reactive to stay informative, less they become 'this game was somewhat playable some time in the last 3 years'.

What's the point of those labels if they change willy-nilly?Would you prefer games staying on 'verified' even after they changed their anit-cheat and blocking all Steam Deck users?
