This is not happening to me at all. What am I doing right?

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel Released For Linux With An Explosive Trailer!
15 Oct 2014 at 12:07 am UTC

I am playing Borderlands 2 at the moment. I honestly am not sure I can stand another snark-filled, uninspired tramp through nu Borderlands after this. I think I might have to cap it here. The first was amazing, the second barely tolerable. I think I'd go crazy trying to deal with this PreSequel; even the title is a weak attempt at a self-aware joke.

Nvidia GPU-Accelerated PhysX Now Available On Linux

I do not need all the ssoftware on my Linux rig to be free, especially in gaming. If NVidia wants to keep PhysX and their drivers closed source, so be it, as long as they continue to support Linux...which so far they have done fairly well (better than AMD/ATI anyway). So I'm happy about this news.

I'm holding out for the Steam controller, and until then I'm happy with my Logitech.

The internet is a great thing, because you can filter it. If you don't like what people are saying about you, stop going to the places where those people are posting, or else filter them out either in whatever web app you are using or just mentally. Leaving GoL because someone was abusive to you on some podcast or twitter or reddit or all of the above, is like leaving a ball game because someone in math class hurt your feelings. The answer is not to leave GoL, it's to leave the places that affect you negatively.

Frozenbyte's Platformer Splot Release Date Announced, Linux Version Missing
6 Oct 2014 at 10:45 pm UTC

Looks like they still plan on doing a Linux version, so it might work out. No reason to panic yet.

Trine was quite nice. Splot doesn't look like it would be my thing, but hopefully for those who do like the look of it, the Linux port happens. I bought the Frozenbyte Bundle but I don't remember seeing anything about Splot on it.

GOL Survey Results: September

I was surprised to see such an Intel bias on the CPUs.

Also not clear on why people object to Steam. These are non-open source games, so who cares if I buy them on Steam or directly from the dev site? I don't get it, what am I missing? And as far as I can tell, Steam/Valve is almost single-handedly responsible for us GETTING these games in the first place. I will happily support Steam, even if they take a cut of the profits, because these publishers wouldn't have even bothered with Linux if not for Valve saying that Windows is on its way out.

Otherwise, the results are more or less unsurprising, and very informative. I feel like I know our gaming community much better now.

Off to take the new survey!

We are streaming Borderlands 2 (Updated with VODs)

Cool!

I played through the first fight with the boolymongers or whatever the hell those snow beasts are called. Performance was AMAZINGLY good. Not to rag on Witcher2 but Borderlands 2 was ported RIGHT. Full HD with most settings on high (some were not on high because I was being conservative). And since I got all the DLC, I am finally getting to play as a psycho, too!

Steam Hardware Survey For September 2014, Linux Rises

The thing that will take Linux to the top of these charts is if Valve markets the Steam Machine as a console. It has to be more than just a free OS; it needs to be something that you buy for serious console gaming. They should not write drivers for the valve controller for any platform but Linux, they should release some exclusive titles. I'm not even saying that for Linux's sake, I'm just saying that for Valve's sake; their Steam Machine will die if they just add it to the market without any exclusive features.
