Steam Hardware Survey For August 2014, Linux Slips

Linux usage will go up when Steam Machines come out, and when games start being released reliably and at the same time for Steam OS. Some exclusive titles would help too.

New Humble Weekly Bundle (5 Linux Games Out Of 7)

This is so typical. Linux users support a platform rabidly and loyally, promote it loudly, and then the platform abandons us. Humble Bundle, eeePC, Dell OEM Ubuntu machines, Scratch... I bought every Humble Bundle release when they were staunchly cross-platform, but lately they have not bothered. Such a pity.

This latest release is nice for being semi-cross platform, but I'd like to see more effort from them before I fall back into throwing my money at them.

Borderlands 2 Also Looks Like It's Coming To Linux, UPDATE: Confirmed

Pitchford is kind of an idiot. First he says he'll look into it, then he says it's not going to happen, and now it is happening. Is that marketing hype? because it looks a lot like indifference to your audience, to me.

Anyway I'm glad that Borderlands 2 and Presequel are coming to Linux and I'll buy them both.

Mojang Releases Roadmap For Scrolls, Still No Sign Of Linux

I never buy on a promise to do anything. I did that a few times with games on Humble Bundle, and then when Kickstarter first came out, and hey, I have officially learned my lesson. I buy complete products. I would pledge to pay for something upon completion, if such a thing existed, but I don't buy on an intent to do something.

Quoting: Apopas
Quoting: lavelnever could go back to the "horrible" graphics just for the gameplay.
So you value graphics more than gameplay?
I personally, if I'm being honest, value both. I want good game play, but I really want good graphics and sound too. I'm not saying I won't play a game without these things, but I am biased toward good graphics and sound design, because the reason I play video games is for total immersion. I want to feel like I'm in another world. If a game has no voice actors and 8bit graphics, why am I even bothering playing it on the computer? I might as well just go play a tabletop game at that point.

I am, however, mostly a player of RPG. So maybe that's different for people who play games just for the gaming/puzzle aspect.

It would be interesting to hear Keelan Downton's thoughts on Leadworks, if he ever tries that. It's available on Steam for Linux, and seems to be quite full-featured in terms of being a complete environment for game development.
