Wadjet Eye Games Announces Technobabylon, A Point & Click Adventure

Speaking of AGS, what is in your opinion the best Linux native alternative to AGS for those of us who have ever thought about creating a small point&click game of their own? There seems to be an abundance of tools and adventure game engines for Windows, but not a lot that really work on Linux (outside WINE)
I only know of OpenSludge, which seems to be very basic in comparison to AGS, Wintermute etc.

Guess The Next Linux Port From Feral Interactive, And Win A Copy

I think it is safe to say that we won't be seeing any game on Linux that relies on DRM platforms other than Steamworks (Uplay, Rockstar Social Club, Origin...) unless those platforms get ported over, too. I personally hope this doesn't happen and (as much as I'd like to play it) couldn't care less about GTAV if they will use 3 DRM-layers again for the PC version.
I also seriously doubt that Rockstar would give the code to GTA into the hands of an external company to port it. And I'm not sure if Feral could really port such a massive project (which would be the port of a port basically)

I wouldn't really say they have mastered it, though. I have yet to play a really convincing new adventure game made in Germany. As much as an old adventure gamer like me appreciates the efforts and dedication of companies like Daedalic, especially the kind of humor in these games just doesn't cut it for me.

On a more critical note:
I think that Germany (compared to its economic strength and population) is a very underdeveloped country when it comes to the games industry. The lack of creativity is astounding even among the bigger companies like Crytek. Apart from that, what you have are dull simulation and management games, browser/casual games, endless sequals of games that have always sold well (Anno, Settlers) and games that try to mimic other games of the past or fill the gap that the decline of e.g. Lucas Arts has left (Daedalic). There are very few original german AAA productions and there is basically no real indie scene either. As a German, I think the german games industry is put to shame by its neighbours especially France, Poland and the Czech Republic.

I wonder, does the windows version of the Steam client running under wine get recognized by Valve as running on windows or linux?
Also, would it maybe make sense to sell linux versions of games as seperate entities from the windows versions, so they could have their own prices and offers and get counted as products of their own? Might be a big letdown for people who use both win and linux, though...

Quoting: Gran PCWorking in my own time is not a business decision, and as you said, I just stopped doing it in my free time. Please read the post. No, but porting the game to Linux obviously is. I'm sorry you lost your passion to put more work into it than your company dedicates to finishing the port, but if you do it right, I don't really care if it takes a little longer now. Lots of people dedicate their free time to working on FOSS projects (without any compensation) because they are passionate about it. If they all suddenly lost their passion because of criticism/trolling....there wouldn't have been any Linux anymore for a very long time.

After all, the company will make money from linux sales, so they should be able to deal with impatient customers. If you don't enjoy that part of your job and you can't just ignore it, just don't work in your free time. Who cares how, when or why a developer finished his work? I pay money, I get the product ... if the developer had fun making it, that's fine. If he didn't and just did "his job" ... that's also fine. Doesn't make a difference for me, to be honest.
If I personally really enjoy doing something, I enjoy it for myself and I couldn't care less what other people do, think or say about it.

Quoting: Segata SanshiroLet's not exaggerate the "free time" and "working for fun" part too much, though. It's not a favor...it's a business decision.I don't know how your company actually works, but why would they have you working on it in your free time in the first place? They can expect some considerable revenue from a linux port, so they should really assign (and pay) a developer to do this full-time...If you read Gran's post, he was doing it in his free time because he enjoyed it. He is also being paid to do it during office hours, that's why its delayed but not canceled. That's probably the worst thing about this - not only were people trolling a dev, but a dev who was doing a nice thing and who clearly enjoys his work.

"+1 for linux" could also just mean: Here is another person that appreciates your efforts to do a linux port. Nothing wrong with that.

Quoting: Gran PCIt is mostly removed from the forums (edited out by the author or moderators or post removed altogether). You probably won't find my emails on the forums either -- and I am not offended about people writing "+1 for linux" (just legitimately didn't understand what the point was -- having announced that the port was coming) - sorry for the misunderstanding there. So what are people actually complaining about mostly? Usually people (even on Steam) are very euphoric about any Linux port that is officially announced. I don't get why they would be so outrageous. And unless it turns out to be a legitimately objectionable port (I'm looking at you TW2) I've never seen them complain in such a way as described here.
As the original post stated, I am also still working on the port, just not in my personal time.
One last note -- I am actually pretty blown away by the new messages I have been receiving/seeing on forums, articles like these, etc. It actually does help put things in scale. So thank you for that.
