Quoting: TacoDeBoss
Quoting: m2mg2What is indirectX??? is this like Valve's togl?
Just like it.
Not really, the only similarity is they are both compile time libraries. Beyond that they diverge somewhat however I'm not going into specifics :)

Quoting: GuestI hope they didn't use any runtime translator, since Unreal engine acutally works on linux...
We've never used a runtime translator in any of our games.

Quoting: GuestLooks like the game has always-online DRM: http://steamcommunity.com/app/319630/discussions/0/627456486427711558/?ctp=23#c359543951714737284 [External Link]
No it doesn't, that user just had an issue with his installation. If Square Enix servers are offline you just don't get any statistics or other progression information.

Quoting: ShmerlToo bad it's not sold on GOG.

Quoting: ShmerlFeral Interactive are DRM lovers.
We don't "love DRM" however selling games on GOG is a so much more than DRM. In fact most of the issues I can think of right now are not related to DRM but to all the other systems that a service like Steam offers. Off the top of my head some features in Life Is Strange that are baked into the game include:

Friends Support
Leaderboards
Achievements
Cloud Sync
DLC purchase systems

For example during the game your key progression and decisions are logged and at the end of a chapter see how your decisions match up with all the other players or just against your friends. This is possible through use of Valve's gaming API, the same is true for achievements and cloud sync. Porting a game to GOG would require all of these features to be removed or implemented with replacement systems. People using these systems would obviously be separated from the main pool on Steam, this makes a much bigger impact for multiplayer games for example.

I hope this explains just a few of the things people often don't think about when they talk about releasing a game outside of Steam, it's likely it's not so much about DRM but all of the other benefits of using Steam that are also in play.

Quoting: manero666The problem here is that this Feral port requires way more hardware power to get the job done..
The requirements differences between Window$ and Linux (native) are huge
I think we have one of these posts for every port we've done. :)

We only support hardware back to the hardware we could buy when we started porting. Often our games might run on older low spec hardware however we can't go an buy all the older 5+ year old hardware on eBay just so we can test the odd game on older and less popular hardware. Apart from the issues with buying second hand equipment from eBay the potential cost of buying (and then hiring more staff to test on them) isn't really feasible.

We set out our min spec hardware based on the min spec hardware targeted for the initial SteamOS boxes when we announced XCOM 1 on Linux. I hope that explains why our min spec will never drop below certain hardware (Nvidia 640, AMD R7 Series & Intel Iris Pro).

Looks like the open source Mesa driver has hit OpenGL 4.5 support with Intel
25 Jul 2016 at 2:14 pm UTC

Even if you support all of 4.5 you can't say you support 4.5 until you also support all of 4.4 and lower as well. This means although most of OpenGL4.x has been available on Intel for a while due to a couple of missing features it was stuck on 3.3 officially for some time.

With these remaining features being added to Mesa in the last few months it means the OpenGL support on Intel has been able to rapidly progress to where it is now. The next stage is back porting support to older CPU/GPU designs and improving performance of the current implementations where possible.

Neither of those are a simple task however the progress in the last few months is encouraging :)

Company of Heroes 2 updated for Linux, adds support for the War Spoils system and fixes other bits

Quoting: TheRiddickIt is odd how this game has such large performance issues, considering your looking at the ground most the time.
Quoting: babaiFrom the benchmarks I see that Feral have fixed much of the performance issues in SOM. If they would fix the same for COH2, I'll probably buy it.
Feral take note, people like me who have mid/low end graphics cards are missing out the fun because of some of your under-performing ports. A bit of optimization and we'll be on board.
I'd contact support if you have issues, CoH2 performance was improved via a number of patches since release. This was due to a lot of post release performance work combined with newer drivers allowing more cutting edge features to be used. Although the game is not officially supported on AMD, we have been working towards Mesa support and the game should now run without any issues using Mesa 11.2 or newer. We hope to announce official AMD support in the future.

If you have an issue then please do contact us and we can investigate, if people don't contact us then we can't help as easily.

[Edit] Fixed a few typos & provided info about contacting support.

Tomb Raider gets its first Linux & SteamOS patch, performance improved in heavy areas

Quoting: GuestWell, I just bought this during the Steam summer sale, and I'm not impressed: forget the laughable scenario, the omnipresent QTEs, the bugs alone are making it unplayable... Like the numerous camera glitches (e.g. suddenly facing the floor), or falling through the map. And that's just with a few minutes of gameplay... Thank god for Steam's refund policy.
Sorry you're experiencing issues other users aren't. :( I'd double check you have a supported systems and drivers and if you do I would contact Feral support with details of your setup so we can investigate further.

Alien Hunters DLC for XCOM 2 now available along with a big patch on SteamOS & Linux
2 Jun 2016 at 7:26 am UTC

Quoting: DePingusThanks for the quick response. Unfortunately, this didn't work. Steam shows the pre-order DLC is installed, but the game still doesn't see it. Just to see I started a new game, did the first mission, got to base, and checked the armory. I only have regular kevlar and the old war survivor soldier is not there. I think that rules out an issue with the save.
Mmm.. not heard of anyone else having this issue. I'd try purging the "~/.local/share/feral-interactive/XCOM2/" folder (make sure you keep a backup just in case) then allowing the game to reset and re-download save games from the Steam cloud.

If that doesn't work do email support however being a super rare issue (based on reports so far) trying to work out why your machine is playing up might not be a quick process if the standard methods don't work.

Quoting: Dea1993into the gpu driver graphs you also must add Hybrid driver (AMDGPU-PRO, is open and closed)
IMHO I'd stick with calling AMDGPUPRO closed source, the only part that is open is the kernel side (AMDGPU) which doesn't contain any 3D graphics support, it will get you basic unaccelerated graphics in 2D so you can boot the system but nothing else. The actual driver that does all the 3D support and hardware acceleration of graphics is closed source and that's the important bit I would think? AMDGPUPRO is basically Crimson but using the AMDGPU kernel part to load the user space driver instead of fglrx. However you can easily debate this many ways :)

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/ff/Linux_AMD_graphics_stack.svg [External Link]

I also think I might be interesting to see the open/closed split per vendor. AMD in particular would be particularly interesting given the recent improvements in Mesa. Nvidia and Intel are pretty much 100% proprietary and 100% open source respectively so would be less interesting. Finally perhaps reporting the version of the drivers people are using would be useful? Given the constant progress drivers are making seeing how fast people upgrade and what drivers are most popular would be interesting.

Alien Hunters DLC for XCOM 2 now available along with a big patch on SteamOS & Linux

Quoting: nocriThe DLC work ok for me except I have VERY HEAVY FPS loss on the World map -- on tactical missions I have 50-60 FPS and the same on the ship, however on the World map I have like 6-7 ... I tried to disable all the mods, but there is smth wrong with the Launcher, and whenever I launch it and look at the mods, all the mods are still enabled. Is there any bugzilla or github for reporting the problems ?
Specs:
CPU: i5-6300HQ
GPU: nVidia 960M, with blob 364.19
Kernel: 4.4
The performance drop is due to some mods having issues and causing the game to run badly. These mods effect Windows/Mac & Linux in the same way. Some mods don't uninstall correctly (again on all platforms) which can compound the issues if you use these buggy mods.

There is a thread here started by Windows users that helps explain the issues and has some steps you can take to fix it by uninstalling the mods.

http://steamcommunity.com/app/268500/discussions/0/364041517011441625/#c364041517011827653 [External Link]

If you have issues disabling mods in the Launcher for some reason then you can quit the game and use the Steam client to go to the Workshop items you have installed and unsubscribe. The url to this page will look something like this.

http://steamcommunity.com/id/ [External Link][your username]/myworkshopfiles/?appid=268500&browsefilter=mysubscriptions

If after all this you think you have a Linux specific issue then use the pre game launcher to contact our support and we can investigate.

Alien Hunters DLC for XCOM 2 now available along with a big patch on SteamOS & Linux
31 May 2016 at 11:33 pm UTC

Quoting: DePingusI'm getting a missing DLC / Mod error when I try to load my save game. Its looking for the Resistance Warrior Pack which was pre-order DLC, and the only DLC that I own. Steam shows the DLC is installed. Verifying the game cache integrity in Steam didn't help.

CANNOT LOAD SAVE GAME
The selected Save is missing required Downloadable Content or Mods:
"Resistance Warrior Pack"
Choosing to load it may result in a negative experience such as poor performance or
instability. Proceed at your own risk.

Running on Fedora 23, AMD FX-8320, AMD R9 270, Mesa 11.1.0
Make sure you restart Steam client then verify your installation that should force the Steam client to pickup the patch correctly. There were a few issues shortly after launch where some pre order content didn't update correctly but a restart of the Stema client (as that forces the client to get new ownership info) should clear the problem. You will likely get a download at this stage as the missing files update/reinstall.

Quoting: sevendoes it fix the crashing of the game on ubuntu 16.04?
We don't have any open issues with 16.04 and XCOM 2. As long as your hardware and drivers match the min specs on Steam then you'll be fine.

Crashes are usually caused by incorrect drivers so that's the first thing to check.
