GRID Autosport released for Linux & SteamOS, port report, video and review included

Quoting: FraaarghFor me game does not start :(
Stuck at the first loading screen with CPU at 200%
I'm on Kubuntu 15.10 64bit, Nvidia GTX 560 TI448, Nvidia drivers 352.63.
Any idea ?
Make sure to tick the "do not show again" box on the launcher and then try launching the game. There is an issue with some specific language setups on some machines. You could also Add
LANG=C %command%
to the launch options. We'll get it fixed so you don't need to do this but either of these solutions will work around the issue for today.

Here is a list of wheels with details of if force feedback and/or 900 degree mode is supported.

Quoting: leillo1975I have a problem: When I execute the game, It shows a window to configure resolution and other issues. When I push the button to start, the game stops in the Grid Autosport logo.

I try in fullscreen, in a window, at 1080 and 720. I use Ubuntu 14.04.3 64bits, with Nvidia 750ti (358.16) and 16GB RAM. My steam library are located in a NTFS shared partition

Alien: Isolation Released For Linux, Prepare Your Spare Pants, Port Report, Review & Sale

Quoting: pete910Thanks for the info edddeduck, Some on phoronix was trying to figure out what OGL ver it needs.

Also, AMD GPU's seem to be running fine with the port. Well for me . Am I just lucky ? :S:
We develop using AMD (closed source drivers) as well as other drivers and we work with AMD (and other vendors) reporting issues that we find during development. Although the game is not at a standard that we can declare official support on AMD yet many people should get a good experience it's just not quite good enough to declare official support yet. However we do hope to be able to announce official support in the future.

Quoting: pete910Well, It's fine on a 290x @ 1440p all ultra . Motion blur is off Lowest ive seen fps is 50's Normally around the 70's.
You're using the OSS driver too?
Sorry, should have stated. Cat 15.9's .

Someone on phoronix has given it a go with radeonsi iirc. Lots of miss rendered stuff.

The game needs OpenGL 4.3 and the Open drivers are yet to support it. As compute shaders are key to rendering the entire game if your graphics drivers are missing these features then it won't render correctly. Once the FOSS drivers get 4.3 support then in theory the game should render fine.

Quoting: STiATI've still a huge issue with FPS in the game, dropping below 1fps pretty often, never going above 30, even on lowest settings (i7 and gtx760, 8gb ram).

Still have hope for that being improved in the future.
Sorry to hear that. If you have issues that effect gameplay on supported hardware I would make sure you contact Feral so we can investigate. We do read forums etc but nothing beats contacting our support team directly with specific details. Also your benchmark results (including the settings you used) is useful as it will allow us to compare your results to the ones we have in house to look for discrepancies.

Quoting: d10sfanGetting pretty low performance on this port. With a GTX 680, even with setting everything to low, it's staying in the 30 fps range and below. Not very impressed with this port, and it seems the numbers should be higher on a 970 as well.

I understand the thinking of lower fps dosen't matter on a rts
Please make sure you reboot between changing settings as the engine will not fully reset until you do so. If you have an issue with performance please contact our support with your settings and details and we will investigate.

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor Reviewed For Linux

Quoting: ColoneilI just want to know if this is specific to my configuration ([email protected] GTX960), because I stopped playing now, waiting for an eventual performance update...
That looks like your specific hardware, we have had the odd user with issues (usually using untested/supported ditros) but if you contact Feral's support team with details of the issue and a link to your video etc we can see if we can offer you suggestions.

If it's severe it's likely something with your specific setup that can be fixed to allow the game to run like it does on other peoples machines. It's possible it's your CPU as this game really likely multithread hardware but send us your details and we can have a look.

Quoting: Mountain ManBlame AMD for their crap drivers.
115 games in my Linux/SteamOS library, 112 out of 115 just working fine, 3 not even start, or constantly crashing after the main menu. This three are Pixel Piracy, Dying Light, and SoM, convince me about crappy drivers.
The fact that 100% of your games don't work without issue can be blamed on AMD's poor driver support. And based on what I've seen in various Steam forums, I think you're lucky that only 3 games out of 115 are giving you issues.
It's worth noting I am pretty sure two of those games (Dying Light and Mordor) are the only major ones I know that use OpenGL 4.2 or later (I could be wrong), Mordor actually uses up to 4.4 if available. Most Linux games released are less complex and usually use OpenGL 3 paths which is a lot older and more reliable on AMD.

The newer more complex features are the ones that are more likely to run into performance and driver bugs as they haven't been used as much. That is a slightly simplistic explanation but should help give a little insight into why some games have more issues with AMD drivers than others.

AMD are working hard on updates (and we have been giving them feedback to help as much as we can) so as the drivers improve you should see games that were not previously supported/working start to gain support/work again.

There are a number of technical reasons why cross platform was not possible in this case and none of them are related to game updates being released but more to do with how the engine itself and cross platform networking works.

It's not an easy problem and is very dependant on how the original networking code and the game engine in general was designed. I'll look at getting you a more in depth explanation for those interested when possible.
