Medieval II: Total War Collection released for Linux & SteamOS

Thanks for the info.

Sharing installation folders between Windows and Linux (or Mac) can cause issues with installed files, so can using Windows formatted drives as they have subtle differences in file support that can cause edge case issues in some setups.

I suspect it is likely a the ( ) symbols on NTFS formatted portion that is part of the trigger. Anyway we'll have a look but the advice above still stands using Windows formatted drives and sharing installation between platforms tends to invite side effects.

Medieval II: Total War Collection released for Linux & SteamOS

Quoting: leillo1975Noooooooo, Don't work!

I launched the game and It worked, but when I clicked in "Tutorial" it showed me that I must chose an option in the list, but I didn't have options. I closed the game and I re-launched it.

After this the game don't load. If I open Steam in a terminal, the game indicated me that I should send to feral a .dmp file.
Contact Feral via email with details of your hardware and software setup and we can investigate, it's likely something in your setup that we can look into.

Ori and the Blind Forest developer clarifies why a Linux port is up to Microsoft

Quoting: Mountain ManI think Microsoft is (finally) starting to see Linux as a legitimate long-term threat. Why do you think they made Windows 10 a "free" uprgrade?
Microsoft always made the bulk of their money with Microsoft Office, business licensing and OEM hardware bundles, actual end user Windows purchases are only a smaller part of the revenue.

The free OS is more a reaction to other closed source OS's going free like Apple did with iOS then OS X. They have noticed by doing this companies have gained a massive upgrade pickup reducing the support burden on older OS's allowing for quicker implementation of new features and reduced resources in supporting older releases which saves money meaning the revenue potentially lost in sales is actually saved through simpler support and maintenance paths internally.

I have noticed this on OS X development where the free OS upgrades mean we can focus on using the latest functionality of the OS as you know people can upgrade (and do upgrade) to the latest version as it is just a click away.

Just my view :)

Quoting: omer666As for the GeForce 600 requirement, I agree it's quite unpleasing. Even if my GPU is a 660, I don't think this is safe politics.
This is mostly related to available hardware, it's just not feasible to try and purchase a decade of discontinued hardware (if you can find them) and test a decades worth of cards and CPUs.

It will likely play just fine on many older cards however due to the fact hardware is no longer manufactured and we cannot feasibly test against all those card variations (it would be more work than all our ports so far combined). Our min specifications are the minimum specifications we officially support and have tested ourselves based on the minimum specification hardware series when we started bring games to Linux.

One of the "minor fixes" was fixing the VPN crash on Linux, should really had had it's own point!

Quoting: evergreenI couldn' wait. Bought it and with my 10 years old logitech momo racing gave very very fun. I don'tunderstand why, in big picture mode my wheel moves selection down so that I can't use it and in game it works awesome..
It's a bug by Valve, for some reason they inject some stuff into the wheel controls that they don't when you're in normal Steam mode!

Quoting: Stupendous ManOh, one question: does anyone know if you can play split-screen mutliplayer? It would be a fun game to play locally with some friends.
Yes, you can.

Although it is not a casual game, so unless your friends are already good at racing games, they may have a hard time. I prefer DiRT Showdown for playing with my friends, because it is much more arcade and easier to get hang of, even though I think Grid Autosport is much better when playing by yourself.
You can always play the (free) Destruction Derby DLC :) No skill needed ;)

Sorry we need the pretty new drivers to work around issues like the crash you're experiencing. I hope you can get updated soon :(

Quoting: fenevadkan@eddeduck: thank you for the tip, I double checked the driver version requirement in steam store page and checked what is installed on mine (I have the needed Ubuntu 14.04.03 and thought that driver req is the same that the default in this Ubuntu relase, but it is not), and saw it needs newer driver, so this was the issue. Luckily I had an even more newer driver available to install in my repos. After reboot it can start now without a problem.
Cheers!
\o/ Enjoy!

Quoting: fenevadkanGame crashes after clicking 'Play' in the settings windows.
You mentioned LANG local trick does not work for me . :(
I have also tried to disable the settings windows, still no luck..
Sounds like a distro / driver issue are you running on a supported card and distro? I have seen an issue on unsupported AMD hardware running the latest MESA drivers that looks similar but nothing on Nvidia with Ubuntu.

Please feel free to contact our support with full details of your setup and symptoms. If you are using an unsupported setup we might not be able to offer you support but we do monitor issues for common triggers and if we come across a work around or find a solution even on an unsupported setup we will let you know.
