Thanks for the suggestions regarding MP, however any changes need to be merged into Windows (and Linux and Mac) easily and without effecting Windows (and Linux and Mac) performance and stability in any major way. It's not really the network layer but the maths used throughout the game engine which is then used to keep games in sync. We've tried many maths library replacements (which is how we got Linux/Mac working on many titles) however we're yet to find a solution that works on all three platforms, is easily implemented and has no performance or stability impact on all platforms.
We won't give up looking into solutions but this isn't easy, between all the games we've investigated these problems on we've easily spent months heading towards a full year of investigation on the problem. It's disarmingly complex and a single byte out of alignment and the entire house of cards fall down.
This post (linked to previously in this discussion) has a good overview of the problem.

Total War: WARHAMMER Linux specifications announced for the release tomorrow, Mesa supported for AMD

It's possible the Intel Iris Pro GPUs might get support in a future update but the weaker none IrisPro GPUs are unlikely to ever be supported as they don't have the performance needed. We'll certainly update everyone if the position on Intel GPUs changes.

Quoting: kuraWhat about Intel GPUs :( ?No official support, there are a few rendering issues specific to Intel that we're looking at working around.

Quoting: Mountain ManLooks like I'm somewhere between the minimum and recommended specs. It worked out well for Mad Max, so I wonder if I'll be able to eke some good performance out of this one?You should be more than fine :)

For the record XCOM 1 (our first release) supported Mesa for Intel GPUs. Total War: Medieval 2, Life Is Strange, Dawn Of War 2 are some recent games that all shipped with Mesa/RadeonSI official support for AMD hardware.
We've supported Mesa where possible and we have a number of titles supported on Mesa and many more that we did all the work needed inside the game but could not support it officially due to the game needing fixes that where not yet available to end users. For example both Mad Max and Deus Ex run on the latest Mesa but had a few driver issues (mainly performance related) preventing official support on launch.
Warhammer is the first complex modern title that we've been able to have Mesa support from launch since games started requiring OpenGL 4 features like compute shaders even on the lowest settings. However it is a long way from being our first Mesa supported title.

Quoting: JahimselfI'm on nvidia, but I applaud Feral for their first release supporting MESA open source driver! It is another great step for linux gaming opened by our beloved cheetah :)The first Feral game that supported Mesa was also our first game released on Linux! So we've always supported Mesa where possible since the very first game. :)

Quoting: pete910Others in this very thread have it working fine, sounds like you might have something setup differently that is causing an issue.Quoting: PeraFrom my testing no it does not :(Quoting: MajGuanoDoes surround sound work, 5.1 or 7.1?I'd like to know this too. It's really frustrating when almost every new game on Windows supports surround sound out of the box, but Linux ports of said games are often stuck to stereo only for some reason.

The latest AMDGPUPRO drivers just released has a number of fixes and will run the game using OpenGL without visual issues however the performance isn't at a level where we feel we can officallly support it.

Quoting: tumocsWe worked with AMD employees on both Mesa and AMDGPUPRO.Quoting: 2dcomplexLooks like I have the wrong hardware. :(Still it works (somewhat) with latest mesa even on a lot weaker card. There has been no work for amdgpu-pro and I would ditch that. You also get vulkan on mesa now.
I was crossing my fingers for Vulkan support so I could give AMDGPU-PRO and my RX480 a proper workout, but alas.

Quoting: MajGuanoThe game crashes on launch for me.Sounds like an issue related to our distro and the steam runtime. That's where I'd start investigating.

Quoting: JahimselfI took me a while, but I finaly found settings to make the game look "okay" with "okay" average fps. I find it looking sharper than on ultra. (and it runs as fast as normal presets for me) Some effects are better on ultra, but you won't notice them that much while playing, and some of them I really don't like.Very cool work thanks for sharing I hope others find it useful.
If like me you don't like the blurry and pixelated image caused by all FX used to give a photographic aspect to the game, you could try them and give your feedback:
