Microsoft Reportedly Buying Minecraft Maker Mojang

History time! Way back in the olden days I was a Mac user, and an exciting new game was to champion Mac gaming, releasing its Mac version ahead of a Windows version giving us one clear-cut victory. Then Microsoft bought Bungie and said Halo would be a dual launch between Mac and Windows. A few months go by and suddenly it's to be the launch title of their new Xbox console, home computers have to wait. It took two years before it released for Mac, a few months less for Windows.
I have no idea what Microsoft is paying for. I have no idea if Mojang is working on a new game. I do know that in terms of platform support, you do not want Microsoft to own anything at all.
Then again, were I Notch I'd pocket a billion to live well all my days and spend the other to fund all future projects and keep innovating in a new company, I'd bet he himself is frankly more famous than Mojang the company.

Humble Indie Bundle 12 Launches With Lots Of Great Games

Of these I only own Gone Home already, and I'd gladly pay twice for that experience.
Looks like I'm going to buy my very first humble bundle today.
EDIT: OK that was a weird experience. I was so ready to adjust the sliders to decide who gets more money, and I found nothing I wanted to have less than the default split. Really hope I got this down as a Linux purchase, didn't get asked which system I use at all, but the download page assumed Linux right off the bat.

Steam Hardware Survey For August 2014, Linux Slips

Steam for Linux is in its infancy. The spike in users will come when Steamboxes hit stores. That's your sales pitch to developers and studios, get in now and be a Steam OS launch title. Steam OS will not compete with Windows and Mac OS, it will compete for the users of Xbox, Playstation and Nintendo, a largely more game-loving demographic. If you're trying to sell the Linux system to developers, sell that hope, rather than tying to add a decimal to the 1% market share right now.
As for the 1% market share, I believe it. Valve keeps internal statistics on users' OSes, and I believe they show the survey to as many as they need to in order to match their internal statistics.

GOL World Tour: Linux Gaming From Norway

Since you all agree that this isn't the place to discuss politics, please stop discussing it. The lines have been drawn in the sand, we know where you stand, no need to argue further.
The article was a fun read. To be honest, I only thought of Funcom, and realised about half-way down the list why they wouldn't be part of this article. It's amazing the number of game devs Norway has. Eager to see where this world tour goes next.

I really like Linux. Huge thanks to Valve who simplified the pay/install process and made, to me anyway, this a viable platform for games. Now that dual booting is no longer needed, Linux is all I have. I play games on Linux because I can now.

Quoting: godlikeSo what you're saying is that I NEED to order parts and build a desktop PC. Thanks, this will help me when arguing with the wife.Quoting: CimerydIf the "redux" version of Metro's engine is OpenGL 4.x only, then I am afraid the changes to play it are slim. The Linux Intel drivers officially support GL 3.x with some 4.x extensions.Quoting: lavejust in case someone is wondering - you will need:Does that mean my Intel graphics laptop won't be able to run it at all, even with settings cranked down?
AMD 5xxx Series or higher
NVIDIA 4xx Series or higher
I guess we need to wait and see if they will support both 3.2 and 4.x.

GOG Announce DRM-free Movies, And Some Games Are Being RemovedMight want to change the title. It looks like they are removing DRM free movies. Not technically incorrect due to a well-placed comma, but still confusing. I suggest substituting But for And.
