Dying Light's online modes get bigger with The Following, hopefully they actually fix it for Linux

I googled around and it seems other people have discovered this too.

Quoting: TheBossYeah, I was gonna try it in Windows to see how the performance compared to Linux, and after I click "Continue" it just crashes during the loading screen. Making a new save file in Windows works just fine, haven't tested THAT one in Linux yet though.Quoting: XeekeiI also discovered the hard way today, that you can't switch between Windows and Linux and expect your save files to work. Though that was the base game, but I doubt The Following fixes this.Wow, really? No excuse for that, save files should use a common format for a single game.

I just purchased Dying Light as a New Year's present for myself. I was pleasantly surprised at the good performance on a GTX 670 with the proprietary driver.

Honestly, I didn't even know about the site. Though that doesn't mean it wasn't a big deal. I hope Ryan can buy the domain.

This is awesome. It's great to see a game developer that understands the value in a platform that has no owner. The value in freedom.

Quoting: Glog78Personally I don't miss anything, but I'm not really a developer. My friend is. He's not the only one I've heard good things about VS from.Quoting: XeekeiDisclaimer: Haven't read all comments yet.To help with the question for an IDE please be a little more specific what you miss on Sublime or QtCreator ?
The biggest issue with Linux from a Windows developer's perspective is that it's unclear how you're supposed to develop. Sure we got Sublime and QtCreator, but we really have no Visual Studio. VS is the biggest road block for my friend. Otherwise he loves Linux.
Also, as stated in the article, games just happen to rely on Linux's weaknesses. Namely graphics, audio, and input. Hopefully Wayland and libinput will fix this. I'm not sure how much more work PulseAudio needs, or if maybe even ALSA needs fixing.
The new so called "hybrid source" AMD driver might be good too. I personally hate when games are Nvidia only, but can understand why.

If this fix actually works then I've been screwed. I refunded the game like the day before this article was released. I might buy it again next month. Though it did perform like crap for me on Windows too. Maybe the same problem.

Linux developers are people that like to code C in Vim/Emacs. Developers from other platforms are a totally different breed, and now we are asking them to do games and applications for us. QtCreator is getting pretty good, but mostly Linux lacks decent IDEs.

I fail to see why Valve should have any cut of the profits at all. They already make money on the games sold. Maybe 5% maximum. Yeah, game devs 20-30-ish per cent, Valve 5, and the rest for the modders.
