I notice a huge trend with these XCOM camera style FPS games, is this really a thing people love or is it a fad?

I like my old school FPS made in the image of Golden Eye 64, which reminds me when will Golden Eye Source land? Ha I can't wait but I think they're dead in the water :( Black Mesa Linux version too :(

These frequent updates are sure garnishing regular attention from blogs & the Linux world.

I think it's good because the prestige of working on a primary Foss project will surely draw additional hands.

Similar to how Ubuntu took the spotlight with 6 month advertising campaigns.

Quoting: AsavarTzeth
Quoting: HoriAlso, can't Valve just develop their own DE and make it very lightweight and make interaction between the game and the kernel as direct as possible (still via the DE, but with less bloat) ?
They already have their own custom compositor that is used on SteamOS.

Quoting: HoriI know they have Big Picture but AFAIK it still runs on GNOME. And having their own DE has other benefits too, as they will have full control over it's development, and can make it as gaming-friendly as possible.
Incorrect. Gnome does not run by default and it is in its own tty (tty7) while SteamOS runs on a lightweight compositor in tty8.
I'm not sure that is entirely a statement of fact. When using LightDM greeter the Session launches on TTY7 yeah, but when using GDM the session launches on TTY1 and each additional session TTY2, etc.. at least on my Arch setup that's how it is and you can have 2 users logged in on different sessions at the same time on eg, TTY2 and TTY3.

F1 2015, another big game showing hints of coming to Linux & SteamOS

I wasn't a racing sim guru for sure, but I can imagine a lot of linux folks higher up in the ranks would be into this kind of game.

It's nice to have the selection, definitely worth a look but not 4 me i think.

Unity 5.3 released, hello modern OpenGL system for Linux gaming

I totally loved the Cities game, but still haven't pulled the trigger on Cities: Skylines, OGL4 would be a nice performance boost im sure - I'm sure I'll get it for my better half who also is a Arch Gamer, very exciting to see OGL4 as we own many Unity games.
