You'll need to opt into the beta on the properties tab of Terraria before downloading the game.

You might want to embolden that info - the opt in is [mac-and-linux-open-beta]

Quoting: MamboTerraria was first; but Starbound was multiplatform from the start.
Aside from the fact that Starbound is in early access and very active development, which one should I play?
I can tell you which one I recommend playing - I have 457 hours of Terraria and 27 hours of Starbound.

Additionally - Starbound has 1.9 million owners whereas Terraria has 6.3 million owners.

Starbound has 2,600 players online right now whereas Terraria has 67,000 players online.

Even though Starbound was started by the Ex-Terraria Spriter, it plays nothing like Terraria when it comes to building towers, homes, etc... Terraria is a excellent team LAN game and will continue to be in my top 10. I'm so happy! :)

Quoting: ZekThePenguinLooks like Starbound skinned for high fantasy. First, we see a bunch of Minecraft knock-offs, now people are doing the same thing in 2d? WHY?
Your facts are somewhat off - here's a update.

Garry's Mod - December 24, 2004
Minecraft - May 17, 2009 (November 18th 2011 - 1.0 Release)
Terraria - May 16, 2011
Blockscape - February, 2012
Edge of Space - June 28, 2013
Starbound - December 4, 2013
RUST - December 11, 2013

Ark - June 2, 2015

Terraria was actually released before many sandbox games, it's been in the top sellers on the Steam Sale year after year. Just like Wine and WOW - it now has the advantage of 4 years of content since the initial release.

Star Wars Knights Of The Old Republic II Released For Linux, With Preview Port Report

That's great news. I'll have to pick it up when I get some cash.

I tried playing SWTOR Online via WINE a couple months ago - StarWars games on SteamOS/Linux will really be something to get my back into the franchise after George Lucas butchered Films 1 - 3.

But hey I drank a cup of bleach and forgot most of the StarWars prequels so I think I'm ready to go, the books and games have always been much more fun.

End Of An Era, LinuxGames Website Looks To Be Shutting Down
16 Jul 2015 at 9:11 pm UTC

I kindof always saw GamingOnLinux as the next evolutionary transcendence of LinuxGames and Linux Game Tome.

Those sites earned their place in history.

They should pass the Torch as that is the GPL way - but sadly interior politics will likely prevail and some domain snatcher will pick it up and want $10,000 for it later.

The State Of Unity On Linux
13 Jul 2015 at 7:31 am UTC

Yeah I would give Unity 5 a run on Linux. Its been a few years since I've done GameDev, I certainly considered Unity until I learned I would have to run it in WINE - and lets just say that developing on Windows is a chore without a tabbed File Browser, and copying files crashing, not to mention the -"meh"- speed of the OS even when on a SSD.

Unity on Linux would really be the logical next iteration as Linux has a much greater die-hard developer base than Mac or Windows.

Thoughts On The Final Steam Controller
10 Jul 2015 at 10:19 pm UTC

Yeah I'll probably buy 2 or 3 for my mates and me. Valve has to show me that it can be equally as good as the Xbox 360 controller though so I can obsolete it from the top of my tower where it resides.

An Awesome Developer Response To A Comment On The Linux Version Being A Waste Of Time

I forgot about X, I got X3 but lately I have a hankering for gorgeous Linux Games like X Rebirth appears to be from the Trailers on Steam.

So I wishlisted it, I seem to be getting into a habbit of buying ~$20-40 games lately, the future of PC Gaming is good! :)

Wishlisted, maybe will buy next check.
