I hypothesize that those optimizations will creep back in with a couple weeks.

Quoting: sigzTerrain and global shadows are really missing, game just look downgraded comparing windows version...According to beta testers the number of bug fixes that were resolved 48 hours prior to launch was astounding. I assume that the developers likely had to disable problematic code to stop the hemorrhaging error count, I mean they certainly had their pants down with it since launch took 24 hours longer than their estimate ETA.
I hypothesize that those optimizations will creep back in with a couple weeks.
Quoting: adolson^ Motion blur is the first thing I turn off, in any game. It's annoying as hell.This. Motion blur impacts the gaming experience negatively. This futuristic gaming age isn't my world.

I noticed the same discontinuity - I think they probably optimize for Epic settings first.
I set all my settings on Epic and it outperforms high greatly.

"Linux users are pretty hyper-sensitive to criticism"
I've been a Linux user for nearly a decade and I often publish constructive criticism. Sometimes another Linux user will misunderstand my intent and think I'm being "ungrateful" or "negative".
What Linux users need to understand is that the composite group as a whole includes people from ages of 10 to age 70 scattered across every country in the world that speak hundreds of different languages - It's not uncommon for contributors in FOSS to speak english as a second language so it's no wonder they wont understand localized jests and jives, and from their POV they may often confuse your intent because of the cultural barrier, language barrier, and age barrier.
So next time a Linux user trips over something you said, consider that they may have simply not understood the intent of your post. If they call you ungrateful - consider that in their culture it's among the most haneous of crimes to receive free and not sing appreciation (I'm looking at you Asia.) If they think you're being negative - maybe they don't understand the difference a debate/constructive criticism and a argument because they're still a teenager and lack the social intelligence because they spend too much time plugged into the virtual world at their computers.
Then there are those guys that have nothing to do but sit at their computer and argue all day with Internet Strangers, I avoid those people like the black plague because I consider what Mark Twain said to be true:

Quoting: LeerdeckI have to chime in on this, because that original statement is a over generalization and too generic to be always true.Quoting: JudasIscariotI 100% agree with that.Quoting: neffoI am a Linux user and I have a laundry list of things I could say about the platform coming in a from a relatively new-ish user's perspective and no, I don't want to get into this :)Quoting: liamdawePersonally I don't see it as an attack, and it frustrates me when people see criticism as an attack.I agree, but Linux users are pretty hyper-sensitive to criticism of the platform too.
In all seriousness, though, not all Linux users are hyper-sensitive, I think it's just a small outlier that are such :)
I think it is the same everywhere regardless if it's religion, politic, sports or games ;) There are always some people who are feeling offended by general critic at things they like.

Opinion: Why We Want Native Ports Only

Although Commentor OP is clearly radical or troll - I agree that we should buy as we please. And you know what? I've been buying and playing games even in the $20-30 range just because the Arch Linux people of my house are glad to see native games that are well crafted.
The fate of the future is sealed, Linux is a beast that is made to outlive any Corporation, Company or Group because of its openness. Windows & Mac on the other hand require lockin to their ecosystem. If you don't trust them or like the decisions they're making? Tough. Linux on the other hand requires that a governing organization listen to their users as the OS is largely not owned by any specific group - users have a bigger say to get a middleground between the "tough luck" and "total disordered dysfunctional democracy ". Valve are the gate keepers of this new Steamy world, but their power doesn't allow them to make radical and unethical choices with no consequence.

Quoting: hardpenguinBut hey, they do not own you a thing. So stop acting like you are entitled to any kind of treatment and if you don't like something, just do not buy it.That was gold :).

I get 35 - 40 FPS on Epic on my GTX 970 - on High I get 20 - 30.
I noticed that particle effects play a big part in the dips to 10FPS suchas the particle effects from your arm implant on the Inventory Screen, and the Particle Fountains in the distance.
I started a thread numbering bugs on Linux to help the developers get things squared away :)

DiRT Showdown Looks Like It's Getting A Linux Release

I hated GRID, I can't remember if I ever bought a DIRT game and if I liked it or not. I can't wait for a Burnout Paradise type racing game or Twisted Metal racing game - maybe I should get Distance since it's a little surreal.
My eyes are open, I'm so glad I spent the same price of a PS4 on a GTX 970 - The PC Gaming Age has arrived, and it's awesome :)

I think it's good this article lets people know to wait a little bit for better performance.
Seeing as how Storm United and ARK are both built on the Unreal 4 engine and that Storm United runs well, It seems like they just need to do some debugging performance optimizations.
I'm still going to buy a 3rd copy though for my brother, and it is on sale for $5 off so come on in if you don't mind waiting for the optimizations.

Portal Stories: Mel, A Free Standalone Portal 2 Mod Released On Steam

It's simply that some people go crazy when their pet project gets big and they start letting the audience effect the interior universe of a story - eg: the Villian is so cool that the writers want to capitalize on their "coolness" and make them into a Hero. They completely forget that we loved them because they were evil. Darth Vader (becomes whiny child Anakin Skywalker), Queen of Blades (becomes Sarah Kerrigan - commits genocide against the human race, alien dictator { The Hitler of Space} becomes Space Jesus who now is prophecied to save the universe), GladOS [a Pshyco Sadistic Computer with severe morality issues who kills humans in the thousands by performing experimentation] (Becomes the poor victim of a Data Transfer and a Helpless Potatoe who makes jokes in poor taste about turkey dinner and my fat ass.) WTF? Seriously WTF? Nowhere in System Shock 3 should Shodan ever reform and run a Child Daycare.
Unlike you I like good stories and meaningful character development m8 ;) Just Kidding Bro, but my point is that when you go to Mc Donalds and order a hamburger it should not try to compete with Taco Bell and include Beans, Taco Sauce or Pizza - everyone knows a Hamburger should not contain watermelon or Yogurt - in the same that Way Portal 1 !== Portal2 - they messed with the formula and now to me the Story and character development of GladOS ruined the character and forever ruined the Portal Series in my eyes. If a game is about gameplay only it should not include a story, or the story should not suck. Maybe I can pretend that Portal 2 doesn't exist and close my eyes or drink some bleach to forget about Portal 2 and then GladOS can still be evil. At least Shodan isn't ruined yet.

Quoting: scaineSomeone doesn't like Portal 2. So that's a thing? Okay. You're likely correct, notice however that I didn't critique any Portal 2 Mods - the primary disappointing element of the game was the poorly written story and tryhard attempts at "humor" which are as bad as recent Adam Sandler films suchas "Jack and Jill".
If you didn't like the new mechanics in Portal 2, ElectricPrism, you might as well not play Mel. It's fantastic, but it's clearly not for you.
Unlike you, though, I like variety in my gameplay. Simple things are fine, but the interplay of diverse, surprising, interlocking puzzles - that's a beautiful thing. Oh - and stay away from the Talos Principle. That's also not for you.

Quoting: melkemindI've been loving this game for quite a while. It's one of my top 10 on Linux. You suck, I really want this game and your positive reinforcement has caused my wallet to get all giddy to go grab a $20 Steam Card at the store. Now I have to reinforce wallet rehab and listen to my wallet beg me to let it go get this beautiful game for me.
