Steps we're taking as a site for GDPR compliance
20 Apr 2018 at 5:10 pm UTC

Just kidding, but seriously -- when you give up freedoms and liberties for perceived benefits it never turns out right and everyone looses. I would describe this situation as not "realistic" or not "sustainable".

I am not even sure if the greater majority of individuals who voted on the legislature understand the difference between IMAP or POP3, or can barely distinguish a email and a website, let alone the three browser "the little e", "fox fire" and "the google".

Laws are the least effective way of persuading intelligent people (websites, companies) to behave fairly with their users. Most of the internet that has no base in the EU will carry on unchanged, and this will spur technology innovations to get out of the EU or they will mascaraed around a facade of compliance.

Nowadays a person can establish a corporation in Nevada, USA and have all the paperwork and legal requirements filled. Base the server in the US and likely skip all the nonsense.

Lets pass a bill to end world hunger -- because more laws is obviously the way to get shit done. /s

Retro-inspired racer Horizon Chase Turbo announced with Linux support

I want to be hyped but have been disappointed in the past with someone successfully executing a Crusin the World mechanic style game.

If they pull it off I'll be super down to play 4 - 16 player. local, online, whatever.

I just want to keep my excitement-o-meter in check since so many who try to do this formula just fail spectacularly.

Though, so far from the video it looks to have promise.

@WineDevs -- if anyone is reading -- you guys are doing amazing!

One of the more anticipated features you guys could work on for me would be mainlining GTK3 support from wine-staging.

Keep up the amazing work, you guys are paving the way along with MESA, Gnome, KDE and all the other big teams working hard toward a common future. Great work! :)

Quoting: MayeulC
Quoting: ElectricPrismI actually would be happy if there was a limit on the # of units -- say 30 or 40 just like chess or rock paper scissors.
What THE HELL are your rock paper scissors rules?
Haha. It's a RTS insight that some StarCraft and Risk players reference. The idea in risk is that there are 3 kinds of units -- marine, zergling and tank or in the board game, soldier, horse and cannon -- referenced as rock, paper scissors.

StarCraft 1 had 16 units for Terran [External Link] 19 for Zerg 17 for Protoss (52 Units total)

[One area that StarCraft 2 fucked up BIG time was they had many units [at least 20 not including the ones they removed] and buildings](http://starcraft.wikia.com/wiki/Category:StarCraft_II_Terran_units [External Link]) 27 for Zerg 20 for Protoss (67 Units total not including heros or units removed from multiplayer like flying zergling from the campaign, etc...)

(Actually the difference used to be more -- Expansion #3 of SC2 has improved this a lot more.)

The principle idea behind my statement is that if you change games like Chess or Rock Paper Scissors to add new units it changes the gameplay for the worse.

Imagine they remade Super Mario Brothers NES and decided to change the core mechanics by making mario jump twice as high and eat blocks and enemies instead of climb over them -- the mechanics are critical.

So in the same way, the graphics, and creative units are important, but having what "100+ varied units with abilities including terrain manipulation" could actually make the game so complex that it's not fun and unintendetly alienates a large potential audience.

Having a clear vision for the core mechanics a game or kind of game is critical. Having event timing and clearly identifiable units with clear advantages and disadvantages against other units is important. And I do realize that it is a RTS but not going to town adding complexity where it doesn't need to be will KISS like chess instead of it being a pizza with 2ft of toppings.

Less is more.

Quoting: GuestHope it comes with a sale. Didn't pick it up last time on a steam sale.
Then again, it's worth them oney either way I guess :)
For that game? Yeah, one of the few games that is actually worth full price.
I second this (Assuming you are not a broke teen or college student and can spare the bucks), I got like a week or two of play out of it when I got my copy.

The graphics have a old schol charm and the 3d models remind me of G-NOME by 7th Level.

I have the feeling this is going to be amazing. It might even have some of the "it's so bad it's so good" like a good B-Movie where you enjoy it but lol a little.

I am hopeful that the balance has some really OP choices and that everything isn't muttled down to the point that 1000 $1 units are better than $2000 of combo units.

I actually would be happy if there was a limit on the # of units -- say 30 or 40 just like chess or rock paper scissors.

Imagine if ConcernedApe were to have waited to release the game until now and foregone all the success he's had (IIUC Multiplayer is not his strongsuit and he contracted it out)

I am glad that I convinced him to begin the Beta Testing and to go ahead and release when he did. He's made millions of dollars since and it's nice to see nice people succeed at their passions and have their finances set up for them to continue doing cool things.
