Wine PBA looks like a promising set of patches to improve Wine performance
2 Mar 2018 at 6:34 pm UTC

Quoting: meggermanSaid something similar before, but isn't the concept of WINE 'bottles',Lutris scripts, GOG community scripts etc.. kind of old news now Appimage, Flatpack/Snaps are out ?

https://appimage.github.io/ [External Link]

There are a growing number of apps here for appimage for instance. It is crowd sourced. Why not games ?

Surely having a site where the image contains all the relevant MS files, specific libraries, controller tunings within an image where clicking runs the steam, GOG, website url etc.. downloader for your account and builds the game files into the image as a one time executable should work better ? You pretty much forever have a working instance of the game on your machine no matter if you return to it 5 years later.

If it was possible that would be a real draw for noobies coming from Windows and also mean less or no endless WINE tweaking. The central store for the app image can auto update the scrips if needed.

Apologises if im missing something here But it 'seems' an image based system would be like a self contained single click .exe for Linux which worked everytime.
I think in most countries it probably isnt legal to distribute repackaged commercial content.

Im sure there probably are a few countries where its not a huge deal though.

Fantastic example of extrapolating a "formula" for other games success and "applying the formula".

I actually just finished cleaning up hundreds of documents, images and assets for a game I was producing for several years.

I have to admit I am tempted to revive it and do a full linux development process and release. Software solutions available today are an incredible improvement over the tools we had 10 years ago.

Those features make this look like it might take first place in it's category. 4 Player Local and Online Play you don't see too often -- the graphics look perfectly executed too. It looks like they don't take themselves too seriously which is a good sign.

The dialog screens look god awful but the gameplay looks fun, if I was them I would reboot the trailer and try to not have static dialog screens.

Honestly I think that constitutes a pacing problem -- going from fast paced action to 100% deadstop is a conflict of styles.

The game music makes me want to die. I am curious if there is room in the market for 2 SNES style farming games -- SDV is the most perfect I have seen it since Harvest Moon on SNES.

I feel like I need something refreshing to play, I have a unquenchable thirstm hopefully Feral has some atypical ports up their sleeve.

Development on the new System Shock has been paused

Even if they fail to ahear to a strict timeline I think they need to specify a schedule including "how long this break" will last.

1. Taking a break [1-2 weeks]

1a. Reassess development efforts, complete core product first or "Release In Chapters"

1b. Reassess waste and minimize.

2. Restart development with new Roadmap, Priorities

3. Expanding on the main vision is okay once the hard shit is done, everyone wants to work on the "cool" and "exciting" features and new things, but sometimes you have to grind your ass off developing and doing the hard work on the parts you don't want to do.

It's a fact of almost any job, you gotta grind when you don't want to on things you're not especially excited about.

A little bit of self-discipline will bypass a future of regret.

If I was them I would also look into how other small studios function and the kind of stress and problems that are typical aswell as how they cope with stress and deadlines.
