Quoting: dude
Quoting: EKRboiI'm walking out the door for the evening. Kind of surprised I have not received a single GOL PM or Steam PM about gifting a copy for a German gamer. Get on it guys and gals. I've committed to giving someone a copy and If no German gamer claims it before I get home or before I wake up in the morning I will let my girlfriend pick a random steam friend to get a FREE copy of Dead Island:GOTY. So friend me on Steam if nothing else and you may be a lucky winner tomorrow :P
Added you in steam. I'm in germany, I don't even see the games steam store page. It would be awesome to get it as gift!
Dude, nobody else claimed it so you now own Dead Island:GOTY (hopefully!! I did send it. I selected the avatar that matches yours here and purchased as a gift.) So let use know how it goes.

If this transaction goes through like I think, it looks like I have another copy of the normal (no DLC) version of Dead Island to give away after buying the franchise pack after all. Add me as a fiend on Steam and you may just get a free game tomorrow

I don't know what I did to deserve it but if I'm not too drunk (which is entirely possible) it looks like I have multiple copies to give away?

Quoting: dubigrasuMan, even the controller vibration works :)
So...who made the port anyway?
Considering there isn't a "porter" animation in the startup vids and the fact that it is Deep Silver I can only assume there is no "porter" and in was totally an "in house" job. If someone knows otherwise let us know. I'm only speaking on the fact that Borderland:TPS has Aspyr in the into vids on the Linux ver. and on windows they are not there.

I did just buy the Dead Island franchise pack but sadly it did not give me the option to gift my other copy. At least my $$ is going to an awesome dev and an even moar awesome publisher.

BUT!! I am still willing to "pay it forward" and help out a German gamer who cannot get this without it being gifted to them. It's only $5 and I just got paid so what the hell. I will buy the GOTY edition and GIVE it to the German gamer who not only PROVES they are in fact a German Linux gamer, but also gives me the best story about why they want it. I've got some drinking to do with a couple of great friends who are getting married next weekend, but when my drunk @$$ gets home I WILL send you a copy. PROMISE! I expect to see some really good stories in my PM box when I get home ;)

ALSO, you obviously have to friend me on Steam!

It IS Linux native! No trace of eON in the game folder from what I've seen and it runs fantastically as far as I can tell! I didn't think Deep Silver would do that to us with all the good work they have been doing for us Linux gamers. I think I will repurchase the GOTY version and gift my normal version away (if I can, ive owned it for a while so I may not be able to). The first German gamer to PM me gets it! 5760x1080? Linux? No problem!

Yep! I just switched from XFCE to Openbox and it is updating for me as well. So restart your Steam clients folks!

Apparently it is.

I don't think it is.
I sure hope not. While they did get TW2 running pretty darn well for me @ 1920x1080. I want this to run fantastically to blast zombies @ 5760x1080! It runs 60fp @ 5760x1080 without my GPUs even breaking a sweat in winblows last I tried.

Quoting: GuestKeep in mind this game doesn’t work on some Linux systems that otherwise run most games fine, and the developers don’t care about fixing it.

I’m running Arch Linux 64 bit and the nvidia blob and the game doesn’t start.
Quoting: SkullyI am running on Arch based Manjaro 64bit with nvidia blob and all the series work perfect out of the box. So do they have something to fix or do you?
I am running Arch with the Nvidia blob and this is like one of 3 Linux games to ever simply run @ 5760x1080 across all of my monitors "out of the box" without me needing to tinker with config files or resort to xorg.conf trickery. It gets TWO thumbs up from me!

EDIT* The game doesn't exit right, it left me with a small window that I had to kill -9 <pid>.. but I can deal with that. It actually seems pretty cool. I almost wish I didn't have prior arrangements for this evening, but Ill be playing some tomorrow while recovering from my hangover for sure!

NOTE* not sure why the screenshot looks like it has massive screen tearing, it looks great in-game.

Quoting: Segata SanshiroGot the missing executable too...

It's a mystery to me how devs release ports for these big AAA games and they never work for the first couple of days. It's not like I'm using Puppy Linux or anything either, this is Xubuntu 14.04 - on which the game is supposed to have been tested.

Oh well, hopefully in the next few days it should be fixed.
Yea, It's quite ridiculous IMO. The subject has been brought up with the Dead Island devs by our own GOL twitter acct HOURS ago and no response as of last time I looked. So they KNOW they need to update all of the packages and still have not done it. I'm only guessing here, but I assume it would take minutes to do so. I am beginning to feel like it is a cash grab hoping people who already own it will repurchase a currently working version to play. If that is the case then shame on them.

To those who can't buy it because of region. I *THINK* you can have it gifted to you from someone who can buy it. Pretty sure I have read that before. It could be possible to purchase a key elsewhere (ebay maybe) and enter it into steam yourself or give the key to someone you trust to turn around and gift it to you. Don't know if steam will block you from entering in your own key or not. Lastly if you get region blocked in other places other than Steam and you don't want to use a proxy on your steam account, you could use a proxy and some form of prepaid card (not purchased from Germany obviously) to buy it elsewhere to get a key and try to activate it on steam.

Those are just ideas going though my head.. I think the gifting thing is the easiest way though. Just make sure it's someone you trust not to take your money and run =/

I noticed the linux depot had been opened up last night and tried to download it again and got the missing executable error still.. and it is still not updating for me. Mine is just the normal Dead Island (NOT GOTY). I don't know if that has anything to do with it or not. I think it's ridiculous it has been opened up to some but not others though.
