Ken Follett's The Pillars of the Earth released with day-1 Linux support, it’s fantastic
15 Aug 2017 at 7:51 pm UTC

I totally agree. I've been playing the game the last couple of days and it's fantastic!
The artwork is beautiful. The characters remind me of old animation films and the attention to detail, like their reddened noses and skin in the cold, harsh weather really adds to the atmosphere. The music is beautiful as well and the voice acting is absolutely outstanding!

This game oozes atmosphere. It may not be a classical adventure game. But as an interactive novel (or whatever such a game is called) it works great.

I was sceptical first because I usually don't like Daedalic adventures much (except for their marvelous art work) and was also put off by some of the brutality in the first trailers. But now I'm really impressed by the game. I know that Daedalic will get a lot of flak for not delivering (another) classical adventure here. But I think they did a good job and have produced a great game with grandiose atmosphere and that's more important to me than tough nuts to crack.

Steam now has over 3,500 games for Linux, with GOG having over 700

Quoting: Linas
Quoting: wolfyrionThe biggest surprise that I had with GOG is when I discovered that is a Cypriot based company :D ...
I could have sworn they are from Poland.
They are (their office is in Warsaw). But...

On topic: I'd be interested to learn how many of the games available for Linux on GOG.com are actually Linux games or just games bundled with dosbox and made available also for Linux. I can't help it, I'm a bit disappointed by all the games that are not available for Linux on GOG.com that are available on Steam though, like the Metro games for example.

But yeah, that really is complaining without much of a reason. Fact is, it's amazing how many games we have available nowadays for Linux, given the small market share Linux still has on the desktop. A couple of years back I wouldn't have dreamed of Linux becoming a gaming platform as well.

AMD RX Vega GPUs released along with a new AMDGPU-PRO Driver
14 Aug 2017 at 6:49 pm UTC

Should I move close to a power plant with a direct connection I might consider getting one of those new AMD GPUs. But for the time being I'm fine with my nVidia GTX 970.

Seriously, there aren't enough games that I play that would justify getting such a powerful (and power guzzling) graphics card. Besides, I just build myself a new computer around a Ryzen CPU and that was quite a rough ride. I definitely have had enough of trying something "new" and AMD for now.

Here's the latest on what's going on with the Linux port of EVERSPACE

Liam, could you please stop posting screenshots of EVERSPACE whenever you write about it?
The more screenshots I get so see from this game, the more I want it.

Seriously though, it's great to see that the developers still try to get this game working on Linux as well. As has been said already: others would've already given up by now. So I salute ROCKFISH Games for still trying to land this game on Linux. Hut ab, Jungs!

Pyre, a party-based RPG by Supergiant Games, is now out

Once again the artwork looks absolutely exceptional and stunning. But the gameplay doesn't appeal to me. Nevertheless, I think Supergiant Games create fantastic games.

EVERSPACE seems to be having more issues with Unreal Engine again with Linux support

Sad news.

If there's one game that I'm really, REALLY excited about it's this game! I was so, so hoping that it would eventually make its way to Linux (and GOG.com).

Maybe in another time and dimension and galaxy. ^^

Tyranny gets a massive patch, an event pack and has an expansion teased
15 Jun 2017 at 7:08 pm UTC

Interesting news. Tyranny being on sale currently on GOG.com was tempting. But with these news now about an upcoming expansion I'll rather wait for its release.

I still have to finish Pillars of Eternity and am a backer of Pillars of Eternity 2. No need for me to add another, similar RPG at the moment to my evergrowing library of games that I'll never by able to play -- let alone finish -- anyway. (First world problems.)

Day of Infamy major update featuring Australia, also on sale with Insurgency bundled for free

Quoting: AryvandaarHow does Day of Infamy compare to games like BF2 and BF3 (gameplay wise)?
- No destructible environment (BF3)
- No vehicular combat
- Smaller maps
- No health packs
- No infinite spawns
- Slower paced

I'm not going to say that Day of Infamy is a little less hectic or that it can be played a little more "tactical" as that really depends on the team. I've seen good and organized gameplay in Battlefield and Day of Infamy alike, just as I've seen really bad teams that act more like a bunch of headless chickens in both games. I think that really is true for any MP game. You just don't see that much bunny hopping in Day of Infamy 'cause if you get hit, you get hit. End of game.

The developer of EVERSPACE makes it clear it's not just NVIDIA problems holding the port up, making progress
