Got frustrated with Google's data tracking on my android phone a couple years ago, so I switched to Vivaldi. I have no regrets and I love the built-in adblocking and the automatic video playback blocking (the major data eaters).

On the desktop front, when I need Chrome compatibility, I use Vivaldi on both Linux and Windows. I've been gradually moving over to Librewolf in lieu of Firefox on my systems (again, for both OS's) but I have to admit that I still primarily use Firefox on my daily driver laptop. It has all the plugins I prefer installed and it's curated by Linux Mint. Given what I've read here, I may have to accelerate my shift away from Firefox.

In all cases, DuckDuckGo is my default search engine.

I've never heard of Waterfox. How is it compared to Librewolf?

You would think that they would have a process to file a complaint about such sham patents without having to engage the legal system via a lawsuit -- i.e., the complaint prompts an in-depth investigation of the validity of the patent.

The other thing that bothers me about this game is the apparent lack of biological knowledge -- suggesting that breeding would produce a new species instead of hybridized cross-breeds that, may, over successive generations, become a stable breed, not a new species.

Wow. I cut my programming teeth on Commodore Basic and, until today, never realized that it had been licensed from Microsoft. I didn't know about the Easter egg either.

Following the rabbit hole of references in the various linked blog posts, it was fascinating to learn that they often hid these Easter eggs in early code to provide additional proof that the code was theirs.

ALSO! Learned from the MS blog that Commodore is back in the computer business. They've either released or are preparing to release a modernized Commodore 64 for those retro-computer fans out there.

Not lying. I fail to see the difference. Call that ignorance if you wish. Either way, players get to continue playing after official support is withdrawn.

The native Linux thing I can concede to.

That being said, I dislike online games, so it doesn't effect me in any way. If you need to rage about it, feel free ... but I still think it's ungrateful. They could have just killed the game completely. They didn't.

Hey, @Lofty. I can't argue with your points, they're all very good.and make sense. All I can give you is my reasons for feeling as I do.

1) Whatever old game we're talking about, I love that old game as it is. I neither desire nor need it to be modernized to current tastes in gameplay (with gamepad support being an obvious exception).

2) A lot of times, remastering means that the system requirements shift upwards as well (remakes are even worse). This is okay if you are the type that likes to be continuously upgrading your hardware. I'm not.

Let's look at Oblivion Remastered as a good example. On my current hardware, Oblivion GOTY Deluxe 2006 runs exceptionally well at peak settings. Fully modded, it looks amazing. Oblivion Remastered will not run on my hardware at all. The worst part is the drive space it requires.

Textures for large, high-resolution screens (4K +) probably account for the high storage requirements. I happily game on a 15" screen. 1K or 2K textures are more than enough for a screen that size. From my perspective, 4K+ textures are just file bloat that I find make remasters less appealing to me.

3) Don't get me wrong. I'm not opposed to a remaster. I play and enjoy a number of them such as Neverwinter Nights Enhanced Edition, Age Of Mythology: Extended Edition and Stronghold HD, for example. It's just nice to see a developer showing interest and support for the older members of their catalog, particularly when they are over 12 years old. It likely shows that the game is still generating income for them.

Talk about ungrateful, @AsciiWolf. The developer went out of their way to ensure that players could continue playing the game with player-hosted servers after they ended official support. They could have just shut down the main servers and said tough luck. They didn't kill the game. Instead of acknowledging this as a good thing, you just unfairly accuse them of being greedy?

As Julius said, a passion project. My issue is the apparent waste of storage space. The most commonly found SD card sizes are 16GB and up. What a waste of space for an old game that only requires 500MB!

Smaller cards can be found, but they are either overpriced or of very questionable 3rd-party quality and reliability.

I'm with @Linas and @BigRob029 on this. Allow the installation of more than one game on the SD cards and this has more potential.

That being said, Steam, Lutris, Heroic and many other launchers really do offer this experience already, without locking down an entire computer system to a single purpose. @Stella makes a lot of valid points.
