Even with SteamOS coming to more systems Bazzite has no plans to go anywhere

@kadac00

Thanks for the link. That's got to be one of the best examples of "stream of consciousness" writing I've ever encountered. He was just all over the place. So many buzzwords and acronyms too. Pity he wasn't able to write it in plain language. That being said, the quote you provided was about as clear as the author could get.

Thanks to everyone for their responses. If I've understood correctly, Cloud Native has more to do with the installation (or delivery of the installer) than the day-to-day use of the o/s. It sounds like it might even allow for setting up your own custom installation, which is kind of cool.

@akselmo

Well, that's confusing. I haven't used Heroic Launcher much (and I don't do cloud saves myself) but it's my understanding that Heroic has supported GOG cloud saves for a while now.

Heroic Games Launcher v2.4.0 is out with GOG Cloud Save support

I don't really understand what Bazzite being Cloud Native means. Does this mean that Bazzite is unable to function if the computer is offline (i.e., no network or internet connection)?

Ah, Star Stuff. Apparently, it is a phrase attributed to Carl Sagan but I will always fondly remember it as a quote from Delenn to Sheridan in J Michael Straczynski's sci-fi series, Babylon 5.

System76's COSMIC Alpha 5 is here with a new media player, VRR improvements and lots of fixes

Is gaming on par with other distros yet?
With Cosmic? Probably not, but the stable branch sure is.
Well, Cosmic is only in Alpha at the moment and it is just a desktop environment. System 76 is testing it on an Ubuntu 24.04 base.

I agree with wytrabbit. Pop!_OS (the stable branch), IMO, is one of the better Ubuntu-based distributions for gaming. It is based on Ubuntu 22.04.

I have the GOG version. The Native Linux version doesn't seem to have made it to that platform yet.

Bazzite the popular SteamOS-like Linux gets expanded NVIDIA support in Beta

@Kugloaf

I'm not a Bazzite user, but, as I understand it from the article, you would need to install the Bazzite Beta from ISO to test the new Nvidia support. It's not available in Bazzite Stable.

I still dream of seeing an AMD APU hardware configuration like this in a laptop form factor, with at least a 14" or 15" screen. The controller inputs could be managed with an external USB controller of user's choice.

SteamOS moving from Steam Deck to more handhelds gives me hope for better anti-cheat compatibility

@Arehandoro
Unfortunately, doing it the right way costs more money than user anti-cheat on people's computers, so companies will continue doing the latter and blaming left and right when they see fit.
You're right. Like Liam said, they go for the "easy low-hanging fruit," in more ways than one.

-----

I've mentioned before that I don't care for online multiplayer games, so anti-cheat doesn't really affect me. That being said, I do have a problem with game developers thinking that they can host their anti-cheat solutions on my hardware. Dealing with the cheating is their problem, not mine -- as such, whatever solution they choose to employ should be hosted on their hardware, not mine.
