Yay, and I just bought it a couple days ago. Oh well, I'll have to gift that extra copy to someone when I get the bundle...

Another look at some good Linux games going cheap

Quoting: GuestNot as sure about 2033 though, I bought that on sale last year and quickly refunded when it was running very badly for me on my linux install, that was on my old 760 2gb though hopefully it'll be better on my new 1060 3gb
Don't know what problems you saw, they both ran great on my 750 ti when I bought them years ago.

Quoting: nitroflowThey still need to add profile picture to the report options because there are some pretty nasty people out there with some pretty nasty profile pictures. Happened to me once with a premade team of idiots with burner accounts and had to resort to hunting down the steam profiles for it to be properly reported.
You should report these through steam directly - here. [External Link]

Anyway, signed up and ready! :)
And I did, but it's a nuisance hunting down random profiles, even more when they have generic names and there are thousands of results. Anyway, it should be possible to do it through the game since it's shoved in your face every time a user scores.

Albion Online developer explains why existing owners won't see a Steam key

Quoting: KlausThe logic behind forcing a cut of in-game payments is quite understandable really.

Treating in-game payments any different from the intial purchase would encourage a business model, where the game is given away for free, and income is generated solely by in-game purchases.

The most straight forward model would be a game that serves as a "free demo", with the "full version" being obtained by unlocking the content as microtransaction. Without forcing the use of Steam-Wallet for the Steam version, Valve wouldn't see a dime, while paying the infrastructure costs. The same already applies when customers purchase games outside of Steam, but use Steam for downloading and updating them, but so far this is apparently treated as a trade-off, speculating on a sufficient percentage of players purchasing the game directly through Steam.

The same concept is applied on other download platforms, specifically Google Play and the iOS Appstore. The latter is the strictest about it and forbids even links to out-of-app purchases – which makes sense, for the same reasons, but results in awful user experiences for content-reseller apps (eBooks, Video- and Music-Streaming). 30% of the purchase price might be more than 100% of the net-earnings, while having the customer pay extra for in-app purchases would make the feature pretty much useless.
Except this has been done before on steam, just search any F2P game and at most what you find for sale are starter packs, while the game's premium currency is bought through the game's own site.

Quoting: GuestWith some time to ponder, I'm actually a little disappointed by the story. That was also my initial reaction. No-name state, with no-name people, a no-name adversary, and yeah, an obvious plot. Nothing to bring in some of the larger Inner Sphere factions and storylines.

I'm looking forward to this game less and less really. At least it can't be a let down I suppose.

Oh, and my guess is that GNU/Linux multiplayer will be far less - getting the game later typically has that effect. If the game appears at all.
That's what they also did with Shadowrunner though. But it got progressively better with each release, so here's hoping they'll do better sequels story wise.

Quoting: nitroflowThe option would be opening a web page to their store front for micro transactions instead of relying on the steam API, unless the steam API is forced on them. At least with Shroud of the Avatar that seems the way it works, you go to it's website, buy what you want and then redeem the stuff in game after the fact.
I'm surprised to hear that setup. I remember years ago when EA pulled out a bunch of their newer games because Steam wouldn't allow them to sell DLC within game. I think that today you still only see "Gold" or "GOTY" editions of EA games because DLC is complete and included in the game. Hearing what you say, perhaps opening a website is technically acceptable since it's not in-game...?

If it's true that Valve would take a cut on all in-game purchases (again, they're probably just not allowed), then that makes a lot of sense why several MMO's are either not in Steam or don't get into Steam until they're released for a couple years.
This is because there aren't any in-game micro transactions, everything goes through their website, even the premium currency you can buy there is treated like actual in-game items.

This also means it's possible to transfer your premium currency to others players.

You can't really see any performance metrics there, so it's hard to say. I wonder if they'll use Vulkan with Unity for it.
I meant graphically though. But with the amount of crap SotA has in the maps it's not difficult to do better performance wise. It's both a blessing(you have vast amount of flexibility to place shit, for example a nice bookshelf full of book models that you can actually pick up and read, or go overboard with house decorations) and a curse(easy to saturate anything with shit).

Quoting: Joeyboots80I invested in this game 4 years ago, I own property and everything in this game so there is no turning back for me. Sadly I begrudgingly agree with Liam's assessment, the performance is terrible compared to the windows version. I was hoping they'd sew up this issue before release. The release patch claims they did optimizations, but something tells me it was probably only optimized for the windows version. I will continue to bother the devs about the Linux port, that I can promise. Portalarium must address this issue and stop treating Linux players like second-class citizens.
You are not wrong, they didn't optimize for linux because they couldn't upgrade to the latest version of Unity for linux. I blame Unity here, despite all it has accomplished, it's performance has been mostly crap in linux compared to windows versions of Unity games, with very few exceptions. I wish they had gone with Unreal instead, or just went with less detailed isometric perspective.
