Yay!
I have been using the beta for quite some time now with the kids, so far it has been just awesome.
Do the beta users have to do something special now? I would wait a few days and opt out then.
Edit: nevermind, there is a popup with a message that the beta ended and you will be set after a restart. Nice.

Make it so, engage or something for the Steam Space Exploration Fest

Quoting: nullzeroI also see another game with cult following, Starsector, which seems to be referenced every other review and which I never knew about.
I can add to the praise auf Starsector, it is absolutely fantastic, and the similarities to Starcom popped up in my brain too. The thing in Starsector is that you can do absolotely crazy fleet battle with interesting mechanics and are free to do whatever you like (quite like Sid Meiers Pirates back in the C64 days). The only drawback is that it has no multiplayer (and never will).

Anyone remember Escape Velocity Nova? I totally get vibes from this Starcom here, too. Might give it a try!

Okay, as a former TF2 fan i am hyped. Could pleeeaase send me a nice fellow an invite? :)
Sorry for further pirating this thread for personal gains. But the Fear Of Missing Out is strong in this one. :)

Castle Come is a 'walking fortress roguelike' that sounds simply awesome

I like that! It seems like walking cities are a thing now, i just bought Mech Engineer (from Microprose), where you manage a walking city too, but its waaaay nerdier. :)

Steam Game Recording Beta announced - works on Linux and Steam Deck too

Very nice!
How do they handle the sound? Can you say which audio source they record or is it the main audio sink (on the desktop)?
I would like to record game audio without me and my friends talking trash on mumble... :)

Free-roaming megasim sandbox RPG 'Streets of Fortuna' sounds wonderfully unique

Quoting: basedI need a game like this, but also be able to do all sorts of illegal and messed up sht. Imagine rimworld but RPG life sim with u controlling only 1 person in a city.
If I had SOME skill I'd def try pulling it off, I got endless ideas totally possible to be put in a game
Hmmm... that sounds a bit like dwarf fortress in "adventure mode". They are currently working on this to be more playable, but its main features are all there.

No leaving a Steam account in a will after you die according to Valve

This is an overlooked topic, and most of us get there after a close friend or relative died.
I am currently using the family beta, which is a huge thing for me, as i have four kids. I wonder if it might be possible to inherit games to the family library someday.
On the other hand, i remember when i was on the Amiga, i had to put up at around 100 DM (for conoarison, 1 Liter of Gasoline was about 0,70 DM that time) for each single gane back then. I did whenever i could, but of course i could not afford to buy all the games. Those were physical copies which had DRM also (remember those cool codewheels from neuromancer or Monkey Island?), but i could have sold them.
Now, most games i buy are way cheaper, and i can even share them legally without swapping disks. I really dislike drm and licence models, but steam is one of the platforms where my benefits greatly outshine the drawbacks for me. Lets drink to Gabens good health and faith for that...

Caves of Qud gets a huge new Beta released with the big UI redesign

Quoting: PhlebiacI assume it refers to Dwarf Fortress; that seems to be a "big name" in the genre.
It is, sorry. Dwarf Fortress has been such a big thing for me that i have forgotten that it is indeed quite unknown. And abbreviations are not really helpful most of the time, agreed.

Quoting: prosoorI track this game to buy it but they always give discount of only 10%.
The game is interesting for a relatively small niche of nethack fans, so I don't understand the price.
It should cost less.
You might look at it with a different metric: how much hours of fun will it might give you, how deep a story might have an impact on you etc. For example, Rimworld is, if you want to be bold, a 2d DF-like game, why did i pay 30 bucks for it? For me, i played about 500 hours to this day. And it was great. It could have cost 100 bucks, it would still be really really worth it. IMHO it´s not what it is, its what it gives you.
