Microsoft - keep your filthy hands off Valve, leak shows MSFT would buy Valve

Well, since the leak happened, I'm sure competition watchdogs will keep a very close eye on Microsoft for the years to come.

Unity introduces new fees for game devs based on revenue and game installs

I've never seen it stated that you get a perpetual license for Unity, ever. Do you have any sources on that?
Retroactive TOS changes

When you obtain a version of Unity, and don’t upgrade your project, we think you should be able to stick to that version of the TOS.

In practice, that is only possible if you have access to bug fixes. For this reason, we now allow users to continue to use the TOS for the same major (year-based) version number, including Long Term Stable (LTS) builds that you are using in your project.

Moving forward, we will host TOS changes on Github to give developers full transparency about what changes are happening, and when. The link is https://github.com/Unity-Technologies/TermsOfService [External Link].
From https://blog.unity.com/community/updated-terms-of-service-and-commitment-to-being-an-open-platform [External Link], which was posted back in 2019.

The GitHub link is dead, by the way. :D

Epic confirmed years ago, and again [External Link] recently, they cannot change the licensing terms for existing developers. The license you get for Unreal is perpetual on the version you have.
That was supposed to be the case for Unity too, but as they've shown yesterday...

Also, remember when, last year, Unity's CEO called game devs that don't monetise like crazy "fucking idiots" ? Well, the current shitshow seems like a continuation of that. "If you want to afford the install fees, step up the monetisation."

Quoting: dibzI wonder how this applies to stores like GOG, where the installers can be used on multiple computers with a single purchase.
Well, you can do the same on Steam anyway. But it does just add to the list of questions Unity need to clear up, especially since GOG provide the completely offline installers heh.
They'll likely count an installation when the game is run on a machine for the first time.

Patch 2 for Baldur's Gate 3 coming with 'major performance improvements'

Quoting: GuestI wish they'd fix the coop companion staying in your party and taking up a slot without the ability to change him out.
That's planned, as a recently released post on Steam indicates: https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/1086940/view/3669924544104905987 [External Link] (it's at the end)

How's your play-through going?
Well, I'm already on my third character (a dragonborn monk), though none ever left Act 1 (the furthest I got was the underdark with the second character). 😅

Quoting: williamjcmA shame the current version of the game doesn't run on AMD GPUs on Linux (except Steam Deck, it seems) if you select the Vulkan renderer, no matter if you use AMDVLK or RADV drivers.

The D3D11 renderer does work, but vegetation has some nasty flickering.

I really hope it'll be fixed for the game's launch.
Yeah, the launch version had it fixed. I chose Vulkan and everything worked out of the box on launch day.
Yeah, I noticed it too.

I'll be honest, I'm glad Larian gave it some love, because we need more Vulkan games around. Shame it still has a D3D11 renderer, which shows games on custom engines aren't willing to fully ditch proprietary APIs yet.

Yes, it was completely borked in the last early access build.

The 8BitDo Retro Mechanical Keyboard looks awesome

I think this would make a decent compact keyboard for use with a Switch, especially for the people who love sending messages in Animal Crossing or those playing titles that are basically programming environments, but like others in this comment section, for use with a PC, I would definitely need a full 105-key keyboard.

Quoting: soulsourceHmm, I can't confirm without the game, but there are reports [External Link] that look like Vulkan on AMD is working.
It might have worked at some point, but clearly not anymore.

Also, the first report I saw when I clicked that link you posted said the Vulkan renderer did crash their Steam Deck when trying to load the main menu, which was also my experience when I tried it yesterday on my own handheld, and the average RADV experience.

AMDVLK, the official Linux driver, crashes more "gracefully" (the game displays an error message instead of crashing the entire driver) during the Larian video before the main menu.
