Quoting: gojulHowever proton games should all run in windowed mode otherwise they do not survive to alt-tab.
Some are ok running full screen & survive alt-tabbing back & forth.

It really isn't. I keep seeing Linux people saying this and it's utter nonsense.
Windows 10 is garbage & just gets worse by the day, I refuse to have anything to do with it & everyone I know outside of GamingOnLinux wants it gone from their systems as well, I've had people ask me to help them through installing Ubuntu to get away from Windows altogether, Windows IS dying!

Really curious to try these and see by myself... My setup is Ubuntu 18.04 + Nvidia 396.54. I respect Valve's minimum requirements. I'm waiting for a sale to test Doom, Nier:Automata and Star Wars: Battlefront 2. The only Whitelisted game I tested is Fallout Shelter and it runs great.

Edit: I would like to see a filter, in the google docs, to classify the tests per system configurations so that we may relate to similar configurations while trying to see if a game will work or not on our own systems.
My system is also Ubuntu 18.04 & Nvidia 396.54, lots of games that haven't been white listed are working for me. Fallout 3 & New Vegas, Far Cry 1&2 Bioshock Remastered, ALL of the Deus Ex games (Mankind Divided is Native), Borderlands, try some you might find a few more that work perfectly for you.

Quoting: YaumeisterIs there anyway to force Steam to download the Windows version of a game (911 Operator), rather than a broken and now unsupported Linux version?

I tried to do this via SteamCMD, which I managed to force download it, but as soon as I launch the Steam Client, it does an update and download the Linux version.

Man hope they do let us run native ports on proton at some point soon, it does have its uses for some ports (I'd use it for killing floor 1 myself)
Could it be because you have Automatic updates switched on? switch it off for that game before you try running it & that should prevent it downloading the Linux version.

Quoting: Alm888Apparently, history doesn't teach anything some people. To promise is not to deliver. There were lots of "Linux coming later" situations (e.g. "Unreal Tournament 3" ) that never delivered. If the money have already been payed, why work then?

That's my POV, anyway (AKA "No Tux == No Bucks" ). Ultimately, it is your call.
I said I might, as it turns out I won't be just yet. I think the promise of a Linux native port doesn't matter quite as much as it used to thanks to Steam Play, especially when a Steam Play sale counts as Linux.

Quoting: Guestunreal gold actually works in proton stable and while yes i know it has a linux launcher of sorts it's still cool that all you have to do is install directX 9 and then play the game over having to do all that tedious crap to get the linux launcher working

hexen 2 does not work as it tries to load gl hexen 2 and well dxvk not glvk

quake 2 did not work neither but that also has a linux launcher

these were all tested on the stable build of proton as i am a stable person i promise
If you grab the darkplaces mod for Quake 2 & rename the executable to Quake2.exe it'll work with Proton just right.

Quoting: Guestbut the foundations were already laid out.
And exactly what were they all doing before Valve focused them on a single goal?
Sorry, I don't understand what you mean - Valve hasn't done that. Valve is using, mixing to a tool of its own, but it's not taking charge of any of the others.

Or do you actually think Valve is now somehow directing AMD's driver efforts (for example)? Because gaming isn't AMD's only concern, nor was it even a reason for them to open their drivers.
Well it does seem like someone is getting these companies to support Linux in a meaningful way for a change & I can't believe it's just them being altruistic.

Quoting: Guest....did you just compare Valve Software to a nuclear arsenal? Because they really don't have that kind of power. At all.

90% (or more) of Valve's customer base is on Windows. Windows already dominates. That bulk is more important to Valve than the 1% of GNU/Linux users, but the latter is a good playground for Valve.
