The New Starbound Update Has Arrived With A Great Trailer, Huge Update
26 Aug 2015 at 11:15 am UTC

Starbound is a lot of fun to me, I haven't been to impressed by Terraria in comparison.
Starbound just seems way more polished now even though it's in beta. it may not have the survival parts anymore, i'm guessing chucklefish wants to go for more of a 2D action game anyway. which is fine with me. there's a mod that brings back most of the same survival parts to the game if people want that.
I think this game is going in a good direction, I just can't wait for more of the main story. with mods like Starbound Side Stories, helps to make the game a whole lot better and the wait for content a lot easier to bear.
the mods for this game are what can really help make it a lot better, there are a number of great ones that give more sandbox style content. Plus chucklefish supplies the binary command files for linux so we can modify and make our own mods. not many games have been doing that.

Nova Blitz Trading Card Game Might Be My New Addiction On Linux
22 Aug 2015 at 8:13 pm UTC

personally i've never seen many card games that aren't some sort of pay-to-gain parts. MTG being one of the most expensive on the planet to keep up with. I played MTG for a few years and have sank a lot of money into trying to keep up with that game. you can easily spend $500 or more annually on MTG to maintain a competitive deck. so with the advent of games like Hearthstone this is a very welcomed sight. I've only spent $40 per expansion in Hearthstone to maintain a decently competitive deck, because of arena it makes playing that game so much less expensive.

Nova Blitz supports Linux from the start, that to me is a huge win. and worth showing blizzard what's up just by supporting these guys. As long as the game goes with a similar format of Hearthstone so you don't have to fork out a lot to get into the game. Plus maintaining the dynamic of not allowing "power creep" to run rampant like many games tend to do.

Founder Of Larian Studios Teases Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition For Linux

Quoting: Shmerl
Quoting: Mountain ManJust treat Kickstarter and early access as scams, and things will make more sense.
No, that's completely wrong. Crowdfunding is investment, early access is paying for beta testing (which is weird).
Crowdfunding as it stands is a lot of open promises that may or may not be met. there have been many examples from features not quite making into games as intended to Linux versions that were promised and not released to being released years later.
At least with early access if there is at least a beta version for Linux available then there will most likely be a final stable release at or about the same time other OS versions are released.
I'd rather pay for a beta copy than a possible vaporware any day of the week.

Quoting: GuestIf you backed it, you can vote for day one Linux support for the next Divinity kickstarter pledge rewards [External Link].
although i voted, i'm not backing this one at all until i see the Linux version released or at least in beta. I'm still a bit chaffed over the first one.

Cobalt Published By Mojang Drops The Linux Version
13 Aug 2015 at 8:15 pm UTC

yeah this is one of those hard lessons for the current status of Linux. if there isn't at least a beta version available to play then don't bother. these companies only care about the bottom line especially when it is a big company involved somehow.
I could care less about anything Mojang ever does. As it stands they are heavily in bed with MS at this point.

on a side note, i'm still waiting on my linux version of Divinity: Original sin that was promised at the Kickstarter. So even kickstarter projects need to be taken with a heavy grain of salt.

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor Released For Linux, We Love You Feral Interactive

grabbed this the other day but had to wait for that huge download to start playing. got the base game plus dlc from season pass. been playing this the last couple of days and it's been totally worth it. one of my favorite games of all time.

i'm running manjaro on kernel 4.1.3 intel i5-3570K, GTX 780ti (352.30 drivers) , 16GB DDR3 and SSD.
on ultra settings i was benchmarking around 30 to 50fps but it crashed at the end of the benchmark, so i don't know the true average. on very high settings I average 72.33 fps. So that works and looks great.

Sail The Seas In ‘Windward’, Some Thoughts On This Arrrr Game
14 Jul 2015 at 6:36 pm UTC

yeah, it has "sandbox" style of gameplay, it really should be considered a genre by now. not much of a story if any, but just enough to make it interesting, the main focus is to be an open world to do as you please. my main thing with sandbox games is you really need to have a lot of different things to do and enough variation that makes it fun to play a lot. ie. garry's mod, Starbound, Planet Explorers and ARK just to name a few. my new favorite type of game.

Having FPS Problems In ARK: Survival Evolved? Try This Simple Fix
14 Jul 2015 at 5:39 pm UTC

not sure, by default mine was already set at epic for view distance. i've played around with the settings a lot. I use a Geforce GTX 660 on the latest 352.xx drivers and 4.0.8 kernel, the FPS are the same for me on high and on epic. which is ~30 FPS. i can squeeze out a few extra FPS by turning the ground clutter and sky quality down half way and set the resolution scale to about 75%.

Just for the sake of testing I ran this on my wife's slightly older pc with windows and I noticed how their are shader issues in Linux. In Linux you don't get the heavy shadow effect, plus there's no fogged effect on the map in Linux like there is in Windows. as in the map in Linux is fully shown. This I do hope gets fixed, at least if this all gets updated to Vulkan maybe that will help a ton.

SMACH Zero, A SteamOS Handheld Official Specifications Revealed
28 Jun 2015 at 4:50 pm UTC

this is going to an interesting piece of gear, not sure if i'd care to buy it, but with vulkan the performance of this device will be a lot better than any other handheld at the moment. of course it depends on the games that are designed for vulkan at the time of this device's release and the price point. but with the steam link idea, if that works, this would be interesting. it'll have to be a wait and see sort of item...
now if it can make my coffee in the morning then we might have a deal.
