VoidExpanse Space RPG Major Updates & It Now Uses Correct Linux Data Structure
27 Jun 2015 at 11:53 pm UTC

they've slowly but surely got everything setup right for linux. i've been playing since the later part of early access. the mod files can be opened, changed and created with the standard linux archive tool, you just have to give the file the proper .mpk extension. their main asset file can be extracted the same way. the game uses a lot of java script and xml so it's easy to mod. Only downside is the publishing tool for steam is Windows only. but you can post your work on their main mod site.

AMD's New R9 Graphics Cards Will Support Vulkan & OpenGL 4.5
26 Jun 2015 at 3:54 am UTC

Vulkan is compatible with openGL 4.1 or higher compatible video card. it all depends on what pressure we put on the manufacturers for drivers. the funny part about Vulkan is the drivers will typically be only 25% to 35% of what they once were as far as hardware vendor code wise. there is more work on the side of the software developers, although Khronos has already said they have many common use-case drivers which will be the community generic drivers that are open source developed for lower end applications/games (they could get much better with time). Then higher end games/applications that need custom performance will need to be custom developed by the parent company. But the good part is once they write said drivers they can be reused for every other game/application and of course built upon and developed better. Knowing Nvidia they will most likely support a wide array of their current cards.

Terraria Sandbox Game Plans A July Linux Release
24 Jun 2015 at 8:06 pm UTC

the action in Terraria looks crazy and mad. I've chalked up over 200 hours with Starbound and it seems like a more polished game especially with certain mods. Plus i've been customizing my own custom mod for Starbound that has a mix of features from the multiple mods i've tried. I basically ripped out all the useless stuff to me, re-balanced everything to be inline with Starbound etc. I've had a dozen characters or more over the coarse of testing mods and playing. I like the direction the nightly builds are going with Starbound. they are adding a lot of nice improvements for this next stable update, which should be sometime near the end of july or early august. if Chucklefish don't come up with a really good end-game story then i'm sure the person doing the starbound side stories will. that mod has everything needed to really make for a good end-game story.

Fallout 4 And Steam Machine Release Dates A Coincidence? Yes, Probably.
18 Jun 2015 at 3:15 am UTC

I'd really like to think positive about this, I'm a rather positive person. But I do know games and game systems and the like are released on Tuesdays a huge majority of the time. the 10th happens to be a Tuesday... So it's most likely just coincidence. I will hope for the best but expect the worst. We'll have to wait and see how the Steam Machines fair in the coming year.

Quoting: dimko
Quoting: kalinI plan to buy amd because of open source drivers and because vulkan.
Without amd probably there will be no vulkan
Wake me up when there will be games that actually use Vulkan.
I'd love to buy AMD for reasons of OSS drivers, but I don't find it good enough reason to dump Nvidia card that just works with no head aches and rapes AMD performance wise.

I am thinking about upgrade, but until I can see Vulkan games or games that don't run well on my GTX 660 - it's aint happening. Badly optimized games - I wont bother buying these.
I agree somewhat, I have a GTX 660 as well for pretty much the same reasons. As of right now until Vulkan is released it's the best choice. Most likely when Vulkan is released we may see some interesting increases in AMD/ATI graphics capabilities , it will still be a wait and see sort of situation but I wouldn't be surprised to see ATI cards doing the same as Nvidia or much better than in the past.

Also I wouldn't be surprised to see Vulkan and games supporting Vulkan start to arrive around November when the Steam Machines are released. Valve has been very adamant about Vulkan being a main part of newer game development, and for good reasons, it will be essential. I've noticed a number of older indie games porting their titles to Unity 5. Which Unity 5 has already been adopting Vulkan compatibility. So I'd say many indie games will be the first to have Vulkan compatibility within a month or two after the Steam Machine release.

even though I checked off the Shadow of Mordor, Total War: Rome 2 is a very close 2nd. I want to get Grid as well, I haven't played a AAA racing game in quite some time and for the past year and a half I've been a 100% Linux user now. So all of these games will be welcomed :)
