How can such a change not backfire? It looks like a troll.

I agree! The Trese Brothers is a really good developer as a firm, and... well, as people also !
I pledged the kickstarter, so I have the game for a long time, but I only played for a short time when it was only in beta, as demo. I found it very clumsy, but I'm the kind of player that prefer a 2D game to a mediocre 3D. And it was a long time ago, I think it should be better now, it was still really rough when I played it.
I downloaded the game a couple of days ago, willing to play it now that they published the 100th update. knowing it's only the beginning : "Star Traders: Frontier" is still updated after more than 300 updates. And they still update even very old games like their Templar Battleforce. The Trese Brothers are one of the very few gaming company I would blindly trust!

The initial "goal" of less than 20.000£ is only a marketing twist. It's a common trope on the boardgame kickstarters. The goal is to be able to say "funded in 48 seconds!" or this kind of marketing bullshit.
To sell on kickstarter, a game has to have plastic miniatures. Making the molds is costy. If such a game "only needing 20.000$ for the funding" is not performing well and has a funding of "only" 10 times the initial funding goal, it is cancelled, because it's going to cost money.

And on the exact same point of view from the opposite camp, "Valiant Hearts: The Great War" (2014) from Ubisoft is a nice little game, with a similar tone. The french name of the title is way better in my opinion : "Soldats inconnus : Mémoires de la Grande Guerre" (unknown soldiers : memoirs of the great war)
Watching the video, I even remembered a way older game when I saw that nurse diary filling itself : "Wings!" from Cinemaware, but that was in the last century. You played a pilot during that war, and between missions you could see little bits of life from the squadron... then on the last mission, you learned that your friends were killed or severely wounded, and the diary alternated between joy and despair. That was such a gem for a 1990 game ! The remake from 2012 is not that good, unfortunately.

Well, I have serious doubts about the "highly ranked". It could be a good game, but it's a bit off the radar, currently.

digital adaption of the board game of the same name, one that's quite highly rated too.Never heard of it. Ranked #6456 on boardgamegeek, only one english version that was published one month ago, no visible talks of international publishers localizing the game because no other version announced? Only 22 topics on its forum on bgg ? https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/362976/beacon-patrol [External Link]

Quoting: slaapliedjeI'd love to see a David Finch or Quentin Tarantino Star Trek Movie...Not a Star Trek movie because it's way too serious, and a Tarentino version will be hated by a lot of Star Trek fans. But yes, I'm eager for a sci-fi Tarentino movie!
Get some great strategy games in the Steam Strategy Fest

Really close to the originals X-Com, there's Xenonauts. I started playing it last week, and I'm hooked. It's way more difficult and tense than the modern XCOM 1/2. It's really difficult not to lose one or two agents per mission in the beginning, when you're severely outgunned. I don't remember loosing a lot of people playing the modern XCOMs.
The game is a bit rough around the edges, tho. On linux, don't play the native version but the windows one, and even the beta branch with the "community edition". Xenonauts 2 is currently in early access, it seems better in every part than the first one, but currently unfinished, it has a lot of things missing, but I think I'll use this "strategy fest" to buy it, as it's -25%.
Battle Brothers is on sale, also. It's a must-have for turn by turn tactical games lovers. Don't be fooled by the graphics, it's an hidden gem, and i'm eager for the next game of overhype studio they announced last week (after 10 years polishing Battle Brothers), Menace.

Quoting: WorMzyCan't go wrong with the X-Com games, even if they're not as good as the original Amiga games (fortunately openxcom scratches that itch).X-Com was playable on the Amiga? Well, I missed it, then!

I'd like to win the game. The art is beautiful, and being part of the "land" you build on seems really interesting.
